Whitney Way Thore is beyond grateful for her status as a reality star. She has been appearing on TLC’s My Big Fat Fabulous Life for eight seasons now. But after a recent scary experience with a fan, she is sharing the downside of fame. What made her speak out?

Fan Encounters Aren’t Always Positive

Many television stars and other celebrities consider interacting with their fans as part of the deal. When out in public, they are often approached by fans seeking photos or autographs. But it seems that more and more fans are crossing the line and showing stalker-ish behavior.

That’s what happened to Whitney Way Thore earlier this week. She had a fan encounter that made her so uncomfortable, she spoke about it on her Instagram Stories. Additionally, she shared some other incidents that have happened before. The TLC star has never really spoken out about negative fan encounters until now.

Whitney Way Thore Dishes Downside of Fame

What kind of inappropriate behavior does the MBFFL star deal with?

Over a series of several videos to her Instagram Stories, Whitney Way Thore shared in detail about the scary fan encounter. But she wanted to assure fans that she is more than happy to greet people who approach her in public. In fact, she said that she has only denied a fan once because she was in the middle of a panic attack.

Most fans are polite, but Whitney Way Thore admitted that some fans of the show have crossed the line. She said that when spotted in restaurants, some people sit down right at her table. Or follow her around for an hour.

That kind of behavior is a little over the top. She has also had people throw bricks into her car windows.

But some fans have gone so far over the line, they involved Whitney’s parents.

MBFFL Fans Harass Her Parents

Whitney Way Thore’s parents have popped up occasionally on My Big Fat Fab Life. Fans sent their love to her dad, Glenn, earlier this year on his 75th birthday. And of course, Whitney’s mom ‘Babs’ is a fan-favorite.

But during her Instagram Stories videos, Whitney Way Thore shared some incidents when her fans harassed her elderly parents. And Whitney is not here for it.

She said that back when the show started, fans of the show would call her parents’ house and demand to speak to her. They would even threaten self-harm if the demand wasn’t met.

In another incident, Whitney revealed that her followers would send mail for her directly to her parents’ house. That was too much for Whitney. She said that she has a P.O. Box set up for fan mail. However, if they don’t know the P.O. address, they shouldn’t send anything at all.

How Does Over the Line Encounters Make Whitney Way Thore Feel?

Whitney Way Thore made it clear that she wasn’t whining or complaining about her stardom. She is grateful for the huge following she has amassed. But she firmly believes there is a line that fans should respect.

Coming to her home, harassing her or her parents goes over the line. She explained that it makes her feel “uncomfortable” when fans take it too far. Whitney Way Thore has more to say about her run-ins with fans, but is saving that for a rainy day.
