Netflix, Scripted

Tom Ellis has brilliantly portrayed Lucifer Morningstar with devilish charm and style. The final season of Lucifer will start filming soon. This is a character Tom has loved portraying. This is a bittersweet time for the talented actor, as this is one of his all time favorite roles.

Tom Ellis Becomes Lucifer Morningstar

When he first saw the script for Lucifer, he told Kristine Leahy of Fair Game that he knew “This was the one.” He knew there was “something different” about this character. He also know that if he did this “for a while” that he would “have fun” portraying Lucifer Morningstar. Thankfully, the pilot was being directed by Len Wiseman, and he shared Tom’s views on how the character should be played.

On June 7, after it was announced that Lucifer would be renewed for a fifth and final season. Tom posted a selfie prior to filming that pilot episode. Despite being on his honeymoon, he wrote a thoughtful Instagram post about how is life has changed since taking on the role of Lucifer Morningstar. He admitted that he was “nervous” prior to filming this pilot. Calling it “a privilege” to portray the delightful devil that comes to Los Angeles, he shared that the fan support has been the “cherry on the cake on this whole journey.”

“I took this selfie on March 17th 2015 just before leaving my trailer to shoot the first scene on the pilot episode of #Lucifer I was really nervous and at that moment. I couldn’t have dreamed that we would get to where we are now…I have had the most Amazing ride making life long friends and playing a character that I truly Love. It has been an utter privilege. More importantly I want to say YOU the fans have been the cherry on the cake of this whole journey. You will forever be precious to me and I cannot thank you enough for your passion, support and kindness for the past 4 and half years. Here’s to a Rocking season 5 and going out on a high!!!!!!! ❤️🙏🏽😈 #Lucifer”

What Does Tom Ellis’ Family Think Of His Lucifer Role?

Lucifans may or may not know that Tom’s father is a pastor. So is his uncle. One of his sisters is a paster, as is her husband. He admits, that “you could say I’m from a religious family.” So, what do they all think of his role as “literally, the devil”? The Rush actor confessed that they are “all really great about it.” Tom’s family supports his career.

He went on to say that at the heart of the show, there is a “good message.” Tom shared that he gets a lot of messages from Christians and congregations that tell him that they have “embraced” the message of Lucifer, and use that to help tell their story.

Tom Ellis believes that at the “heart of the show,” they prove that Lucifer is not pure evil. He reminds Kristine Leahy that Lucifer was an angel before he was banished to hell. He admits it is a lot of fun to play such an irreverent sort of character. Tom says he does like to have “a lot of fun” and calls himself “cheeky.” Although he takes his work seriously, he doesn’t take himself seriously. This must be the magic combination that makes his portrayal of Lucifer Morningstar so entertaining!
