It’s not every day that you win Dancing With The Stars! Daniella Karagach and Iman Shumpert managed to snag the Mirrorball Trophy in a milestone season. This is only Daniella’s second season as a pro and her first victory. This is also the first time an NBA player made it to the finals, let alone won the entire season!

Iman Shumpert and Daniella Karagach are over the moon right now

When Dancing With The Stars Season 30 first aired, few thought that Iman Shumpert would make it very far. As an NBA player, he had a lot of athleticism. However, tall athletes tend to struggle to keep up with the steps and make it all look fluid. The height difference between Iman and Daniella also caused a bit of trouble in the beginning. But they made it work to their advantage and kept going anyway.

“I never thought I’d have a ballroom trophy,” Iman told ET after the finale episode. “Hats off to the work that we put in. I think me and Dani set our mind to that when we got that 40, that we don’t want to just to drop off now and just steam out of the competition. I think we just put in a lot of hours and when it was time to perform, it got easy.”

Iman’s parents weren’t able to watch in person — his father tested positive for COVID-19. However, they were with him in spirit and he can’t wait to call them.

And as for Daniella, she’s glad she got to share this experience with such a fantastic partner.

“I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving for it,” she told the press. “It’s never too late to start dancing, no matter what age, no matter what background you are.”

The underdog comes out on top in the end

All season long, Daniella and Iman felt as if they were the underdogs in the competition. Competitors like JoJo Siwa and Amanda Kloots consistently scored higher — but Iman was able to win over fans.

Their Halloween routine inspired by Us captivated audience members and even earned a perfect score from the judges. That was when the turning point in the competition really came.

“To finally get a chance at something so challenging, it feels like a huge accomplishment,” Iman told ET at the time. “I’m just really impressed she had the bravery to come up with that dance.”

During the course of Season 30, Daniella and Iman were never once in the bottom two couples. They managed to stay strong until the very end and bring home the Mirrorball Trophy.
