Yellowstone took the world by storm in 2018. Since the series premiere, fans of the show have been glued to the Dutton family. Yellowstone introduced viewers to an all-new breed of cowboy. After decades of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood types, in stepped Rip Wheeler. The ruggedly handsome alpha male started the series as the lone wolf.
Often the outsider, Rip came to the ranch as a teenager. His not only rough but hard demeanor is caused by witnessing the slaughter of his family at the hand of his father. Rip took revenge by killing his father for what he has done. John Dutton finds Rip hiding in a barn and takes him in as a farmhand. Rip is completely devoted to the Dutton family. He considers them as his family even though he is never fully accepted as one of them.

Rip Wheeler is the Bull of the ranch. He runs the bunkhouse with dominance. Rip is always stern and to the point. After “drafting” Jimmy to the ranch, Rip appears to be annoyed at Jimmy’s every move. However, Rip seems to genuinely care for Jimmy even though he may show it in his own way.
“There’s sharks and minnows in this world, Jimmy, and if you don’t know which one you are, then you ain’t a f**kin’ shark.” -Rip Wheeler
Even though Rip is the strong domineering type, he has nothing but respect for John Dutton. He wants nothing more than to have his approval. When John asks Rip to let Kayce run the bunkhouse, Rip allows it to happen. Even though it hurts his pride, he allows Kayce to take over the bunkhouse by letting him win in a fistfight. None of the other cowboys listen to Kayce until Rip threatens them once again and shows respect to Kayce.
“You ask them questions, Kayce, and the questions will never stop. You tell me what you need, and I’ll take care of it. They won’t question me.” -Rip Wheeler
Rip’s Sensitive Side
Though many fans are attracted to Rip’s rough dominant male character, he also has a sensitive side. Rip’s love for Beth Dutton became apparent early on in the series. Fans watched as she was the only one that could break through his hard exterior. Rip is always there for her. He comes to her rescue when she is attacked in her office later in the season. He kills the men wishing they would come back to life so he can “kill’em again”.
“I look at every day with you as a gift. My tommorows are, well, they’re all words. There’s no word I’d rather call you if that’s what you want.” -Rip Wheeler
Lusting Over Rip
Cole Hauser recently posted a photograph from behind the scenes of Yellowstone. The photo was posted on his Instagram page. Fans see a rugged Rip who “Looks like he’s about to kill Jimmy with his bare f’n hands”.
One other fan had some special words to say to Cole, writing, “Thank you for providing middle aged women with a man to lust after. They don’t make them like Rip anymore.”
