Yellowstone Kevin Costner

Kevin Costner has had an incredible career. Born January 18, 1955, in Lynwood, California, Costner has spent nearly 40 years acting in a variety of different films. Although many Costner fans know him as The Postman, The Bodyguard, or from Dances with Wolves, he is most recently known for playing John Dutton in the hit television series, Yellowstone.

Life Before Hollywood

Kevin Costner is the third child of Bill and Sharon Costner. Dan Costner is the eldest of the three Costner brothers. However, Kevin’s middle brother sadly died at birth in 1953.

With his father being a ditch digger and ultimately an electric line servicer for Southern California Edison, Costner moved around a lot as a child. Costner often describes feeling like an Army Kid. He was always the new kid in school. This was not necessarily a bad thing however as he became a sort of daydreamer. As a teenager, Costner took writing classes and wrote poetry and he sang in the Baptist church choir. When he was 18, he built a canoe and paddled his way down the same rivers Lewis & Clark followed. Despite being just over 5 feet tall when he graduated high school, Costner was very athletic. He was a basketball, football, as well as a baseball star.

Costner’s Break

In 1973, he enrolled at California State University majoring in business. While in college, Costner decided to pursue acting. He spent five nights a week taking acting classes. He would meet Cynthia Silva and the pair would be married in 1978. Unfortunately, Kevin and Cynthia would divorce in 1994 after 16 years of marriage.

Costner also graduated with a degree in business in 1978. Costner took a job in marketing after college. However, his life would change when he met award-winning actor Richard Burton. Burton encouraged Costner to pursue his acting career. Costner quit his job and moved to Hollywood. He worked a series of odd jobs as a deep-sea fisherman as well as a truck driver. He also drove a tour bus at one point.

Costner worked and waited for his opportunity. He finally got his first acting job, but immediately regretted the adult film he starred in. Costner would wait several years until he landed a modest role in the film The Big Chill in 1983. However, director Lawrence Kasdan remembers Costner and offer him a role in the 1985 movie Silverado. Costner has been mastering the big screen ever since.

The Changing Of Tires

In the Season 3 finale of Yellowstone, we see John Dutton, played by Costner, shot several times while helping a woman stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire. The episode ends with John leaning up against the vehicle bleeding.

Costner recently did an interview with HearHere where he talks about changing tires. Costner reminisces on his childhood during the interview. He speaks of how his father kept a mat in the trunk of their car for when he would have to change one of those tires. Costner tweeted the interview on his Twitter account.

Season 4 of Yellowstone premieres sometime this year. Fans are eager to find out what happens to John and the rest of the Dutton family. Be sure to check back with TV Shows Ace for more news and updates.
