Shameless production recently went into panic mode when they thought they had a COVID-19 outbreak on their hands. What happened exactly? Keep reading for the full scoop.
Shameless Season 11 production was delayed by the pandemic
Fans of the Showtime hit series know production of Shameless Season 11 was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Production for the final season of the series was scheduled to start days before production of TV shows and movies across the United States shut down. Once some time past and the production team got some proper procedures in place for the pandemic… They were able to move forward with creating Season 11 of Shameless.
That being said, fans of the Showtime hit series have some mixed feelings. Turns out, the writers ended up rewriting a significant chunk of Season 11. Why? Well, they decided to work the COVID-19 pandemic into the plot for the final season of Shameless. After all, Shameless has always been a parody of real life events. And, how these events look to a poor family in Chicago. So, the writing and production teams felt obligated to rework the final season to include the pandemic.
Now, a lot of fans had mixed feelings about this because they worried it would ruin the final season. Some admitted they wanted an escape from the pandemic. They didn’t want Shameless to continue to thrust the pandemic into their faces.
Moreover, we know fans had an issue with the idea of Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy) wearing a mask. This was a character that just didn’t make sense to wear a mask. Anyone who knows the character knows he never would have conformed to the COVID-19 guidelines.
All that being said, COVID-19 has proved to be a pretty interesting twist to the Shameless Season 11 plot line. And, it made it a little easier for the production team to keep the cast in masks as much as possible.
The production team recently had a COVID-19 outbreak scare
According to TMZ, the production team of Shameless went into panic mode a couple weeks ago. For a period of time, they thought they had a COVID-19 pandemic on their hands. Why? Well, someone connected to the production team told TMZ the set went into panic mode following 18 positive test results. The production team panicked because they thought they had a COVID-19 outbreak on their hands.
The source, however, proceeded to tell the media outlet it ended up being a false alarm. Turns out, there was a lab screw up. The 18 positive test results were actually false positives. All of them. It was a lab error.
Now, the source did not make it clear on whether production shut down. Or, how much time passed before learning it was a mistake. But, it sounds like the panicked situation happened a few weeks ago. And, we know the show shot a huge scene with over 200 extras in L.A. around the same time.
For now, we can rest easy knowing none of the Shameless cast or crew actually tested positive. Whew!
