Welcome to Plathville stars Ethan and Olivia Plath recently chatted with Sarah Fraser. Sarah hosts her own podcast, Hey Frase. In the past, Olivia has starred on the podcast herself. But, this time, both Olivia and Ethan talked with Sarah.
Throughout the podcast episode, the couple addresses many heavy topics, including the relationship difficulties they’ve endured early in their marriage. In addition, they talk about the relationship they have with Kim and Barry Plath, Ethan’s parents. Those who have watched the family’s show know that Ethan and Olivia aren’t on the best terms with his parents. So, now, Ethan and Olivia are providing more insight.
Ethan and Olivia Plath are working on setting boundaries
On the podcast, Ethan and Olivia reveal that they’ve been going to therapy. Olivia talks about how this has given them more tools to work with. Ethan gets raw and honest, sharing that his parents have caused many of the issues that the couple has had in their new marriage. So, counseling seems to be having an impact.
Sarah points out that counseling gives you boundaries, which she assumes helps with the issues the couple has with Kim and Barry. She talks about setting boundaries in all areas of life.
Olivia says, “Boundaries was something that we hadn’t really talked about in our relationship until this year. And I specifically remember earlier this year, in one conversation, Ethan said, ‘Why is everything about boundaries?’ Because it was like a foreign concept we weren’t taught growing up.” She says they’ve learned a lot from working on healthy boundaries. Sarah and Olivia go on to talk about the benefits of setting boundaries.
What’s the relationship between Ethan & Olivia and Kim & Barry like?
Sarah mentions that Season 2 of the show focuses on the three different households in the Plath family. Then, she asks for an update about the relationship between Ethan and Olivia and his parents. Olivia bluntly says, “There isn’t one.” Ethan adds that he hasn’t talked to his parents in “forever.” Olivia hasn’t “seen or spoken to them since last October.”
Then, Sarah points out that Kim and Barry seem more apologetic this season and that they’re trying to save the family. Olivia reminds listeners that the show is real and not scripted. So, it sounds like Sarah’s interpretation is accurate.
Ethan says there’s been no attempt from Kim and Barry to contact the young couple. Ethan says, “I’m totally okay with not speaking to them, because as of right now I’m still furious with them.” He’s unhappy with how he was raised and how they’ve treated him and Olivia.
He goes on to say that he’s sad that it affects his younger siblings too.
