What do Jason Derulo and Will Smith have in common? They are credited for having massive TikTok followings. In fact, they frequently make videos together. But, 16-year-old Charli D’Amelio? Lately she is putting both super stars to shame.
The young and talented social media influencer recently made TikTok history. How? By breaking 100 million followers. Moreover, she is the first TikTok user to do so. According to People Magazine, this broken record took her by surprise. Just a week ago Charli was losing followers over some intense backlash.
Why was Charli D’Amelio recently under fire?
It was a week ago that Charli and her sister Dixie D’Amelio came under fire. Their followers thought they were being rude. Rude toward their personal chef. The backlash came after the upload of a YouTube video. In fact, her followers really let her have it.
The personal chef cooked food for the family. Family friend James Charles joined them. Viewers watched Charli make faces while the chef described the food. Her sister could be heard gagging at the snail on her plate. The viewers couldn’t believe how disrespectful the sisters were acting.
Rude. Disrespectful. Those were the words many used to describe the sisters. In fact, the backlash was intense. So intense that it caused her to lose a million followers. Were the sisters ungrateful? That’s what everyone wanted to discuss. Fortunately, Charli quickly caught on to the backlash. So, she decided to answer to it.

Charli did respond to the backlash, with tears
Subsequently, Charli D’Amelio had an emotional response to the fan backlash. Eventually she took to Instagram Live to discuss it. Indeed, she referred to the whole chef incident as a huge “misunderstanding.”
You can hate on me for whatever I’ve done… But, the fact that all of this is happening because of a misunderstanding, like… I just feel like that’s not okay. And, if this is the community that I’m in and the community that I put myself in… I don’t know if I want to do that anymore.”
Almost immediately, her reaction was uploaded to a fan account on Instagram. Was the influencer quitting TikTok? It sounded like it! However, that ended up not being true. After a few hours, she had more to say. She put a more positive spin on her second try.
In short, she wanted to put the drama behind her and move forward. In fact, based on her recent record shattering numbers, it seems she did just that.

Accordingly, Charli D’Amelio took to her social media accounts yesterday to react to breaking 100 million followers. Charlie felt surprised. Additionally, she felt like she was living “a dream.”
Moreover, she was grateful. That is, grateful for everyone who followed and supported her as she continued to grow.
