By now, hearties have heard the news that the 2020 WCTH Christmas movie will not be happening. Now, Brian Bird, co-creator of the beloved Hallmark series has a message for these fans.

What did Brian Bird have to say?

Brian Bird Shares WCTH News

Hearties love the When Calls The Heart Christmas tradition. For the past five years, there has been a Christmas movie arising on Hallmark on Christmas Day. Recently, the official Hallmark Channel Twitter account shared some startling news.

The official WCTH Instagram page shared Brian Bird’s message to #hearties. He shared the news in the most delicate way, thanking fans for their support.

#Hearties… you have likely heard by now that the much-hoped-for WCTH Christmas special was not possible to produce this season. We are sad and sorry right along with you, but it just wasn’t in the Christmas cards this season. If there ever was a year when the complicating factors of life would force a change in plans… 2020 is it. I’m sure you can relate.

However, the silver lining is 12 EPISODES (instead of 10) in Season 8… and something else… a holiday surprise that will be there for you under your tree anyway. (More about that later 🥄😏🥄). In the meantime, thanks for always rolling with us through thick and thin with your Hope Valley values of patience and understanding. Hearties are the best fan-community in the world. I feel sorry for all the other TV shows out there that don’t have big shoulders to lean on… like we do with you!

We love you and God bless you!

Why The When Calls The Heart Christmas 2020 Movie Wasn’t Made

The WCTH executive producer did not reveal exactly why the 2020 Christmas movie was not made. But, based on the statement, this situation was complicated. They had clearly intended on a 2020 WCTH Christmas movie. Hallmark made the announcement on July 15. But, obviously things have changed since that initial optimistic announcement.

They did start the When Calls The Heart Season 8 production early. The first day was on July 22. Erin Krakow shared how they were going to use “pods” to stay safe during the worldwide pandemic.

Another of the safety protocols was that they were going to film outside as much as possible. Could the Vancouver weather have been uncooperative? Did they have few choices on how they could complete Season 8, and decided that the Christmas episode had to be canceled in order to complete the main event?

As we get closer to the holidays, we may get these answers. But now, the focus should be on what we can expect in 2021. The WCTH producers have managed to accomplish something that fans have long asked for.

When Calls The Heart Season 8 Will Have Two Extra Episodes

What is reassuring for hearties is the confirmation that WCTH Season 8 started filming over the summer and in the end, there will be two extra episodes. Brian Bird confirmed that the total episode count is 12 episodes.

Fans of the Hallmark series have long asked for a longer season. They got their wish. This means more adventures and more romance in Hope Valley!

What Is The Christmas Day ‘Holiday Surprise’?

Now the big mystery is what is the WCTH holiday “surprise”? Brad said that there will be a “holiday surprise that will be there for you under your tree anyway.” Will this be a special holiday message? Will this be a Christmas music concert? Perhaps this will be a BTS special?

What we do know is that the WCTH cast and crew hold a deep appreciation for their fans. And #hearties should expect something very special.

Brian Bird seemed to keep this particular news close to the vest. We will certainly be paying close attention to social media as we get closer to the holidays.
