The 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? episode of Sunday, September 13 featured two weddings. On one side, Andrei and Elizabeth enjoy their spectacular and lavish Moldovan wedding. On the other. the traditional Nigerian nuptials shared by Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi. Angela is obviously happy to be married to Michael, until after the wedding, when she receives tragic news.
90 Day Fiance and Michael and Angela’s wedding
Over in Lagos, Nigeria, Angela Deem prepares for her wedding to Michael Ilesanmi. Her close friend, JoJo assists her with her final touches, while Angela is so nervous, she needs a cigarette. Everyone is excited about the wedding, with the possible exception of Michael’s Aunt Lydia. Lydia can be heard to pipe up, “Anything [Angela] says, she wants Michael to dance to her tune.” She told the camera that she asked Michael if he truly wants to marry Angela. When he said yes, Lydia believed this is what he truly wanted. She added that he is “nobody’s child” and she doesn’t want to spoil their wedding.
Speaking to the TLC cameras, Angela says she can’t help thinking what a risk she is taking marrying Michael. This is because there is no guarantee that he will be able to get a spousal visa. She does say she knows marrying Michael is the only way they can be together.
Finally ready to be married, Angela walks down the aisle in a beautiful garden setting. Michael says that watching her walk down the aisle was so wonderful. Moreover, he gushes, saying she looks “beautiful, young, sexy and adorable.”
Love, honor and obey…?
To start the ceremony, an official speech warns both parties they can marry no other, or face imprisonment for bigamy. While this is somewhat of a bummer, the wedding then continues! The priest announces the joining of Kehinde Ilesanmi (Michael’s African name) and Angela K. Deem. Everything goes well as they recite their vows until it gets to the bit about Angela having “to love and to obey” Michael. There is a pause as she looks shocked at the thought of obeying any man. but luckily she laughs this off.
The married couple then attends their lively reception, with much dancing and laughter. Angela’s best friend and witness, Jojo, said, “Today was one of the happiest days I’ve ever seen Angela.” She added that she really believes they do truly love each other. Once Angela crowns Michael her “king,” even Aunt Lydia seems convinced that they will make it as a couple.
Tragic news for 90 Day Fiance star Angela
After the ceremony, Angela and Michael go out to enjoy some drinks, while discussing the spousal visa process. Michael admits that he is nervous about moving to America, but adds he is proud of his “Nigerian hustle,” which means he is ready to work. However, a few hours later, Angela receives upsetting news from her daughter Skyla. Angela’s mom has been found unresponsive and taken by ambulance to the ICU.
Angela tells the cameras that she wishes she could leave that night and to home, but she can’t. It upsets her that she can’t be with her mother and wonders if it is her fault? She says, “All I know is [my mother] could not be there when I get back.” A tragic ending to what was otherwise a perfect day for the newly married couple. Now we have to wait until the next episode to find out what happens next.
