Is ‘Below Deck Med’ Star Malia White Still Dating Chef Tom Checketts?
What’s going on with Malia White and Tom Checketts from Below Deck Med? Is the couple still together? On Season 5, the bosun invited her chef boyfriend onto the boat. He was in town to visit a sick relative. But that all changed when Captain Sandy Yawn offered him to become the superyacht’s new chef.
Malia loves to mix business with pleasure. As fans know, she was the deckhand in Season 2 who was in a love triangle between bosun Wesley Walton and chef Adam Glick. Although she chose Wes, the couple’s relationship ended as fast as you can say “dry land.” Three years later, Malia has found love with Tom. Viewers got a taste for his culinary skills this season.
But is the couple still together to this day?
What’s the current status on Malia White and Tom Checketts’s relationship?
The couple first met in October 2018 on a yacht, of course. Since then, the couple has been inseparable. Now, they’re working together on Season 5 of Below Deck Med. She was so excited to have her boyfriend on board with her. Malia even wanted him to bunk with her, even if that meant shuffling everyone around.
But on a recent episode of the Below Deck After Show, she referred to Tom as a “nightmare,” which is not a nice thing to say about the love of your life. She had a change of heart after the charter season ended. Maybe the close quarters were too much for the couple.
“Having done the show once and having relationships on the show, I wasn’t too stoked to bring a guy that I’m pretty serious about on the show knowing how much can happen and the feedback we get,” she told Andy Cohen during the aftershow of Watch What Happens Live. “No, it was not a nice decision for me.”
Right now, their relationship status is a little foggy. While she told Andy that she’s still with Tom, she unfollowed him on Instagram. In addition, the last photo she took with Tom was in September 2019. However, Tom seems to post more about their relationship on social media.
His latest post with Malia was last month. But it appears to be a throwback photo. In his most recent Instagram post, Tom made it clear that he’s missing Malia.
Does the Below Deck Med bosun want to get married?
During that interview, Malia discussed whether she wants to marry Tom. But she seemed a little unsure about their future. The Below Deck Med star wasn’t as enthusiastic about their relationship as she was on the show.
“I don’t know. I’m not a huge fan of marriage,” Malia said. “But yeah, I want to be with him as long as I can.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Malia and Tom’s relationship can go the distance. As fans know, most relationships don’t survive outside of yachting. They can fall apart due to cheating or distance. Maybe bringing her boyfriend on board was detrimental to their relationship.
