The last few months have shown that anything can happen in 2020. General Hospital alum Vanessa Marcil recently stoked rumors of a possible return to her soap roots. The actress first joined the sudser in 1992 in the role of Brenda Barrett. Brenda spent years ricocheting back and forth between Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Jax (Ingo Rademacher.) Vanessa was one of the most popular stars of the show during her run.

What’s Vanessa Marcil Been Up to Since She Left General Hospital?

Vanessa Marcil was a lead on General Hospital until 1998 when she left the soap. She’s made several returns since then, including in 2013. Since that time, the actress continues her side gig of starring in Hallmark movies. Another soap vet, Drake Hogestyn, recently joined the network’s Christmas movie franchise

The Las Vegas star left GH in 2013 to take care of her child, per reports at the time. She shares a son, Kassius Lijah Marcil-Green, with ex-husband Brian Austin Green. Sadly, Vanessa hasn’t had any other children, despite multiple pregnancies that ended in miscarriage.

While Vanessa was once married to CSI star Carmine Giovinazzo, they split in 2013. In 2015, she announced her engagement to a deputy sheriff she refers to only as ‘MC.’

Could Brenda Return to General Hospital?

On July 31, a GH fan took to Twitter to randomly share their thoughts on Brenda. They wrote that while they love Sonny, they were “glad to see” Brenda leave the show. Somehow Vanessa saw the fan’s tweet and had a response. Her response gave fans the impression that Vanessa and Brenda will be back on their TV screens soon.

She wrote, “I’ve got some bad news for ya” with a smiling emoji. Fans took that to mean that she is returning to General Hospital.

With Sonny and Jax still on the canvas, Brenda returning would make sense. Just one problem. Sonny is married (again) to Carly (Laura Wright) and they recently had another child.

General Hospital airing New Episodes Starting This Week

As fans know, television production was shut down for months due to the coronavirus pandemic. This includes three out of the four remaining soap operas. Days of Our Lives films six months in advance, so they have a stockpile of new episodes to air. GH went into the archives to air ‘classic’ episodes during the production shutdown. However, the soap recently got the okay to resume filming.

The first new episode post-COVID will air Monday, August 3. But fans might think Sam looks a little different. Actress Kelly Monaco had to take a short break due to ‘breathing problems.” As a result, Passions alum Lindsay Hartley will briefly step in the role of Sam.

Tell us in the comment if you would like to see Vanessa return to GH as Brenda.

Tune in to new episodes of General Hospital weekdays on ABC.
