Below Deck star Captain Lee Rosbach is a straight shooter. If he doesn’t like someone, he’ll let them know. He’s not one to make shady comments behind someone’s back. But that didn’t stop one tabloid from claiming that he threw shade at Below Deck Mediterranean chief stew Hannah Ferrier.
He recently admitted that it would be difficult to find a new chief stew who has the same work ethic as Kate Chastain. However, he’s not throwing anyone under the bus. Hannah Ferrier responded to a tabloid that made the bold claim. Captain Lee supported her response and confirmed that he wasn’t throwing shade at her. Find out how the Below Deck drama started.
Below Deck – Captain Lee Rosbach clarifies his comments
On Thursday, April 30, Hannah Ferrier responded to a tabloid report on Twitter. The article pulled quotes from Captain Lee’s interview with Hollywood Life. His comments didn’t slam fellow chief stews Hannah Ferrier or Jenna MacGillivray from Below Deck Sailing Yacht. His statement was taken out of context.
Even Hannah didn’t see any shade. “Where exactly did he throw shade?? I didn’t see him saying any negative about me in that article…”

Captain Lee shared Hannah’s tweet and revealed that he didn’t say anything negative. He was specifically talking about Kate’s departure and what he was looking for in a new chief stew. Captain Lee and Hannah previously shared their mutual respect for each other.
During Below Deck Mediterranean’s debut, Captain Lee complimented Hannah’s work ethic, according to Bravo’s The Daily Dish. Hannah previously told The Daily Dish, “I love Captain Lee. We chat all the time, so I’ve got a good relationship with him.”
Captain Lee Rosbach’s comments get taken out of context
In that interview with Hollywood Life, Captain Lee shared his response to Kate leaving Below Deck behind.
“She’s got bigger and better things to do and I was happy for her,” Captain Lee said. “But, I was sad in the same breath because she’s a valued member of my team and she’s a valued member of ‘Below Deck’ and the show, so, big shoes to fill for somebody, or try to do it, yeah. I miss Kate.”
Captain Lee was then asked what qualities he was looking for in a new chief stew. “I’m looking for somebody that has work ethic [like Kate’s], that has the proper attitude towards sub-ordinance. Someone who isn’t on a power trip.”
He also revealed that he wanted someone who thought quick on their feet. He has no time to teach someone new how to do their job. Captain Lee also doesn’t have time for someone who comes to him with every little issue. He’s hoping to find someone who can stand on their own two feet and get the job done.
Hopefully, Captain Lee will find a new chief stew before the upcoming season. Production for the Below Deck Season 8 is currently on hold amid the coronavirus pandemic. Check back with TV Shows Ace for updates on the Bravo series.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
