There is nothing like Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas. And, Christmas in Rome, starring Lacey Chabert and Sam Page find love and romance in a magical setting. Hallmark Christmas movies are a way to enjoy the holiday season, sip on some hot chocolate and get into the Christmas spirit with some romantic seasonal stories.
What Is Christmas In Rome About?
We meet Amanda DeLuca (Chabert), an American tour guide living the dream in Rome, Italy. She loves the city and shares her passion in the most unlikely ways. This includes stops to destinations that are not approved by her employer. This doesn’t bode well for Amanda, and she shockingly loses her job, just a few days before Christmas.
She literally runs into a high-powered executive, Oliver Martin (Page). While in Rome, he is still acting like a New York City businessman. But, he is there to make a big deal in Rome. His company wants to buy one of Italy’s top ceramics companies. She winds up helping him find his way to meeting and tries to give him pointers. He doesn’t listen.
Eventually, she gently guides him into making the deal, Italian style. Grateful, Oliver helps Amanda navigate her own next career step. Can they find a way to steer towards each other in this romantic Italian setting?
Besides the beautiful sites, there is another Italian legend in this Hallmark Christmas movie. Co-starring is Franco Nero, as Luigi Forlinghetti. Luigi tells Amanda and Oliver, “Where there is passion, there is art.”
Romantic movie fans may remember Nero as Lancelot in the 1967 musical, Camelot, and more recently as Lorenzo Bartolini in Letters to Juliet. The latter stars Lacey Chabert’s Mean Girls‘ costar, Amanda Seyfried. Everything is connected!
Lacey Chabert Calls Setting ‘Surreal’
Lacey Chabert spoke to IBT and explained that the experience was “surreal.” Although most of the movie was shot in Romania, they actually did shoot some key segments in Rome. This includes the Colosseum, The Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.
Lacey really cares that fans get a real feel for the special Hallmark Christmas destinations. She wants them to really immerse themselves into the stories and destinations.
“Whenever we do the movies that are in destinations, such as a magical place like Rome, I just want the audience to feel like they went there with us and that they got to take their own tour of Rome by watching the movie.”
