Netflix Original Thriller ‘Black Crab’ With Noomi Rapace: What We Know

With the success of Scandinavian content in Netflix Original projects, the streamer is continuing with a thriller movie, Black Crab. The Netflix Original movie Black Crab is an adaptation of Jerker Virdborg’s thriller novel of the same name. As per the official synopsis, Black Crab is a Scandinavian action-thriller, set in a post-apocalyptic world. In fact, the movie is set in a world that is being torn apart by climate change and war.  During an endless winter, six soldiers set out on a dangerous mission across the frozen sea. Meanwhile, their mission is to transport a package that could finally end the war.

However, while equipped with weapons and ice skates, the soldiers are unaware of what they are carrying or who they can trust. Meanwhile, the mission challenges their beliefs and forces them to ask what they are willing to sacrifice for their own survival.

The movie is the first for director Adam Berg, who has followed a career in music videos and commercials. Producers of Black Crab are Malin Idevall and Mattias Montero of the Stockholm-based company Indio.

Cast of the apocalyptic Netflix Original thriller movie

BAFTA nominee Noomi Rapace leads the cast of the Netflix Original movie Black Crab. She is known for several movies, including The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Lamb, Prometheus, The Trip and more.

Also in the cast is Jakob Oftebro, known for his roles in The Letter for the King, Norsemen and Agent Hamilton. Erik Enge also stars, whose credits include Beck, The Sandhamn Murders and The Bridge. Meanwhile, Dar Salim of Game of Thrones, Dicte and Borgen also stars, along with Ardalan Esmaili, known for The Rain, Greyzone and Rebecka Martinsson.

Noomi Rapace spoke of Black Crab

Speaking of her role in the movie, Noomi Rapace said how excited she was to return to Sweden to film Black Crab. What’s on Netflix quotes her as saying it is her first Swedish film in several years.

Prior to filming, she said she couldn’t wait to “get suited up and go on this journey – explore human shadows and slide through broken dreams and a world on edge.” Rapace added, “Survival to what price?”

Production status of the Netflix Original movie

Filming for the new Netflix Original movie Black Crab was carried out in Sweden throughout 2021. While not many details are currently available, it is known that production is complete and the movie is now in post-production.

While no official release date has yet been announced by the streamer, Netflix has confirmed that it will release at some stage in 2022.
