Fans of the Netflix sci-fi series Lost in Space will be thrilled to know that Season 3 is coming soon. Running over 10 episodes, the series is a reboot of the original TV show from the 1960s and later film made in the late 1990s. Read on to find out what we know so far about the upcoming third season of Lost in Space.

Lost in Space Season 3

Season 3 of Lost in Space was officially announced in March 2020 but was accompanied by the news that this would be the third and final season. While fans of the show were understandably upset, it is good to know that the sci-fi series will get a full conclusion, rather than leaving fans on a cliffhanger.

The showrunner for Lost in Space, Jack Estrin, explained the final season in a statement on Twitter. He said that from the beginning, they had always viewed the Robinsons’ story as a trilogy. A three-part epic family adventure with a “clear beginning, middle and end.” Estrin said it was worth noting that with that all the characters go through to survive each episode. He wrote that Will, Penny, Judy, Maureen, John, Don West, Dr. Smith and The Robot deserve to catch their breath before the next mission.

Rousing conclusion for the sci-fi series

The showrunner said that while this chapter of Lost in Space is coming to a “rousing conclusion,” he is excited at exploring new stories with Netflix. He is also excited about all the incredible possibilities that lie ahead.

The filming of Season 3 of Lost in Space was finally complete on January 12, 2021, after being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming had been carried out with both the cast and crew following stringent on-set precautions due to the virus. This obviously slows everything down, hence the late release of the third and final season.

Where did Season 2 of Lost in Space leave us?

As to where the last season left us, one of Season 2’s cliffhangers related to the Jupiter Transport. This was the long-lost ship, mentioned throughout the series that was carrying the children. In the finale, the ship made contact with the Fortuna. It is believed that the new season will feature a brand new planet in an unknown star system.

When does Lost in Space Season 3 drop on Netflix?

While it took forever for a release date to be announced, the streaming channel has finally reported that Season 3 will premiere on Netflix on December 1, 2021.
