Jessa And Ben Seewald’s Disturbing Courtship Video Surfaces
Do you remember seeing the start of Ben and Jessa Seewald‘s courtship on TLC’s 19 Kids & Counting? The Duggar family’s show documented many of Jim Bob and Michelle’s children beginning their courtships, getting married, and starting their families.
Audiences were fascinated by the family’s way of life, and many tuned in to watch all of the big moments in the family’s life. Josh Duggar’s molestation scandal led to the cancelation of 19 Kids & Counting, but shortly after, the family returned for Counting On. Though both shows have since been canceled, older clips are still easy to find online. Recently, an old video of Ben and Jessa kicking off their courtship surfaced.

The clip is circulating on social media, and it’s also still posted on YouTube. In the short video, Ben is asking for Jim Bob’s permission to court his daughter Jessa. In the family’s home office, Ben talks to Jim Bob and Michelle. He says, “I was wondering if we could make it official, if I could ask her to make an official courtship?”
Jim Bob replies, “wow.” Then, he asks Michelle what she thinks. Then, Ben invites Jessa into the room so he can ask her to court him. He says, “We’ve been praying and talking for awhile. I was just wondering if you wanted to make it official and if you wanted to officially court me?”
Jessa agrees and smiles before her mom hugs her. Then, Jim Bob gives Ben and Jessa permission to side hug. This is a less intimate type of hug used by the Duggar family and other fundamentalists.
In a confessional, Jessa says, “I figured this was probably coming before too long, but I didn’t know that soon.”

While this might have been a sweet and romantic moment for Ben and Jessa, the audience has a different opinion. On TikTok, one user writes, “That was one of the most awkward things I’ve ever seen.”
The YouTube video’s comments section is filled with reactions from fans who think it’s “awkward” or “disturbing.” One user writes, “How mortifying.” Someone else adds, “Wow this was so cringeworthy. Lol.”
