Wait, Why Was Derek Hough Missing From ‘Dancing With The Stars?’
If you’re a big Dancing With The Stars fan, you might have noticed one regular face missing from tonight’s episode. Derek Hough wasn’t at his spot at the judges’ table!
So what happened to the newest judge?
Derek Hough may have had a brush with COVID-19
At the beginning of the October 4 episode, show hostess Tyra Banks announced Derek wouldn’t be joining the judges. He tested negative for COVID-19 but wasn’t coming to the show out of “an abundance of caution” since he had a possible exposure to the virus.
Derek Hough has a show in Las Vegas right now, so he’s been going back and forth between Sin City and the DWTS studio in Los Angeles. Now, don’t know for sure where he faced the exposure. But with all these travels, it definitely makes sense.
But not to worry! If Derek continues to test negative for the virus, it’s possible he will be back behind the judge’s table next week for the October 11 episode. You won’t have to miss your favorite judge for long.
Dancing With The Stars continues to have COVID-19 disruptions
We all missed Derek Hough during tonight’s episode, but this definitely isn’t the first time the pandemic impacted Season 30 this year. Cheryl Burke tested positive for COVID-19 just before last week’s episode and wasn’t able to perform. However, the judges gave scores based on a taped performance from the rehearsal room.
At the time, Cody admitted he really wished he could have danced with one of the backup dancers.
“Do I wish that instead I got to perform with a sub instead of our rehearsal footage? Yes, of course,” the fitness influencer said on an episode of Cheryl’s podcast. “We had worked on it, you had worked on it with me. I took all those notes that you had given me, came to the hotel room, mentally went through it. I was running through it on Sunday because I didn’t know what was going to happen, and there were all these little details and textures that I wanted to really perform. And how fierce was our costume? It was like, this fierce black floral print and I was so excited for it.”
Shortly after, Cody Rigsby also tested positive for COVID-19 which meant he and Cheryl would have to sit out for a second week in a row. Tonight, they performed virtually.
Hopefully, this will be the last time Dancing With The Stars competitors test positive for COVID-19 during the season because it looks like quite a challenge to make special accommodations.
