Netflix Original adaptation of Happiness for Beginners
Happiness for Beginners is an upcoming Netflix Original movie adapted from the Katherine Center novel of the same name. The novel was first released in March 2015 and the author has also published the books How to Walk Away, Things You Save in a Fire and What You Wish For.
Happiness for Beginners tells the story of 32-year-old Helen Carpenter. Having been divorced for a year, she finally allows her annoying, younger brother to persuade her to join a wilderness survival course. He believes the survival course will be a chance for Helen to pull herself together again. However, she finds out her brother’s equally annoying best friend is also coming along for the trip. For this reason, she cannot imagine how the trip will be anything other than a disaster.
The movie is being produced by Cranetown Media, which is behind a number of Netflix projects. As reported by What’s on Netflix, these include the 2020 film Uncorked and Alexa & Katie. Meanwhile, the movie will start production in late September 2021.
About Ellie Kemper
Ellie Kemper will play the lead female role of Helen Carpenter in the Netflix Original movie. However, she is no stranger to Netflix Original projects. Ellie was first seen on Netflix in the acquired comedy show, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. That series eventually ran over four seasons before ending in January 2019. In fact, it led to an interactive special on Netflix in the summer of 2020.
Meanwhile, Ellie is also known in her role as Erin Hannon on the NBC show The Office. That series left Netflix in the US in January 2021 while being added to international Netflix regions. She has also starred in a number of movies, including 21 Jump Street, Bridesmaids and S*x Tape.
