Fox’s new upcoming comedy-drama series The Big Leap is a modern take on Swan Lake, while handling body shaming and bullying. These days with social media and such, people like to make fun of you, criticize your weight and demoralize you. The new series shows how to stick up for yourself and get ahead, despite your weight or other so-called faults.
Fox’s new dramedy The Big Leap
The Big Leap is loosely based on a British reality series, The Big Ballet. The comedy-drama series tackles the current trend of body shaming while showing people breaking through despite the stereotypes. To do so, they change their lives by trying to participate in a modern rendition of the classical ballet, Swan Lake.
According to Fox’s synopsis, the series is about a group of “diverse, down-on-their-luck characters” trying to change their lives. They go on to enter a “potentially life-ruining” reality dance show, which is a modern reimagining of Swan Lake. Meanwhile, what these characters lack in the way of dance training, they make up for with their “edge, wit and desire” to reimagine an iconic story to fit themselves.
