Netflix’s ‘The Healing Power Of Dude’ Season 2: Canceled Or Renewed?

Netflix Original series The Healing Power of Dude

Netflix released Season 1 of The Healing Power of Dude in January 2020. The live-action kids’ series tells the story of Noah, a boy with an anxiety disorder and his emotional support dog, Dude. However, it is now more than a year and a half since Season 1 aired and fans wonder if there will ever be a second season.

Has Netflix canceled The Healing Power of Dude?

Season 1 of The Healing Power of Dude was the first debut series of 2020 when it dropped on January 20. The series follows the story of an 11-year-old boy called Noah Ferris (Jace Chapman), who struggles with social anxiety disorder. Noah has previously been homeschooled by his father.  However, he is now going to public school for the first time and takes his emotional support dog, Dude, with him.

Larisa Oleynik plays Noah’s mother, Karen Ferris and Tom Everett Scott plays his father, Marvin Ferris. Meanwhile, Laurel Emory stars as Embry Ferris, Noah’s younger sister, and Steve Zahn plays the voice of Dude. Noah’s extrovert friend Simon is played by Mauricio Lara, while Sophie Kim plays Amara, his intelligent, disabled friend. In fact, The Healing Power of Dude championed a number of disability issues, which is always a good thing. The show ran for eight episodes on the streaming channel.

Will there be a Season 2?

It is now more than a year and a half since Season 1 aired and fans are wondering whether Netflix will renew it for a second season. With the amount of time that has passed, it is unlikely. However, the series did arrive shortly before the start of the pandemic, which may have led producers to push back any plans.

The official Netflix renewal status is pending, but it is likely that it has been ghost canceled. The term applies to shows where the streaming channel never announces the show’s fate.

As noted by What’s On Netflix, the series’ creators were on a podcast a few months after the series debuted. They were talking about the possibility of a second season. Basically, they said, “The more people who watch and complete the series, the better chances that there will be a Season 2.”

Netflix only introduced its top 10s some months after the show dropped on the streaming channel, so this doesn’t help. Judging from IMDb reviews, the show got around 700 reviews and peaked at position 541 on the IMDb MovieMeter.

Along the way, the series did win a Daytime Emmy for outstanding casting for a live-action children’s program. However, this doesn’t help if Netflix isn’t in a position to renew the show.

The Healing Power of Dude is not alone, as there are a number of Netflix shows pending, but likely canceled, including Medical Police and Sneakerheads.

For those who haven’t seen the show, the trailer for Season 1 is included below.
