Jeremy Vuolo’s Church Involved In Lawsuit With L.A. County
The church that former Counting On star Jeremy Vuolo preaches at is currently involved in a lawsuit. So, what’s going on with Jeremy, Grace Community Church, and Los Angeles County?
As Duggar fans may know, Jeremy and his wife Jinger Duggar moved from Laredo, Texas to Los Angeles, California a couple of years ago. There, they are raising their two daughters, Felicity, 3, and Evangeline, 9 months.
Jeremy is attending the Master’s Seminary in L.A., which is why the couple made the move there. While training to become a pastor, he’s practiced preaching at Grace Community Church.
Since Jeremy began studying at the Master’s Seminary, he has shared several videos of his sermons on social media. Duggar fans enjoy getting to listen to Jeremy preach, especially since most of them can’t see him in person right now. It’s unclear what’s next for Jeremy and Jinger once he graduates. The couple could move, depending on where Jeremy gets a job, but they do seem to love L.A. and post lots of photos and videos of what they’re up to there.
Now, new information about a lawsuit involving the church has gone public. What’s going on?
Jeremy Vuolo’s church lawsuit details surface
According to an article from the Los Angeles Times, Grace Community Church violated Los Angeles County’s prohibitions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Per the guidelines set by the county, the church should not have held indoor services. In summer 2020, the church was sued by the county.
Though some might argue this was an infringement on religious freedom, the county was able to sue due to the nature of the pandemic. But due to changes in the U.S. Supreme Court in September 2020, the county was no longer able to sue the church. The rulings changed to restrict public health guidelines from affecting houses of worship.
L.A. County spent over $900,000 on the case, which included a countersuit by the church. In a settlement last week, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors approved a settlement. The church will receive $400,000 to cover the legal costs they racked up. The California government also owes the church $400,000 for legal fees.
