‘For All Mankind’ Renewed for Season 3 Ahead of Season 2 Premiere

For All Mankind

There is more to come when it comes to alternate space history. Apple TV+ has renewed Ron D. Moore’s For All Mankind for a third season.

Deadline reported the news first, sharing that the season pickup comes ahead of the Season 2 premiere. This could be a good or bad thing. It could mean Apple TV+ has a lot of hope in the future of the series, or that this will be the final season to wrap things up instead of leaving fans disappointed. However, For All Mankind Season 2’s renewal happened ahead of the series premiere, suggesting the former.

It is also not the only show to receive an early third season renewal. Ted Lasso and Dickinson received similar treatment.

What Fans Know About For All Mankind Season 3 So Far

Nothing is known about the third season just yet. That’s not too surprising considering the second season is still a month away from premiering. Nobody would want to give away any potential spoilers for the 10-episode season still to come.

The series will continue to happen in an alternate world, though. The first season saw the Soviet Union get to the moon first. With that landing, Americans needed to find something else to do to keep the Space Race going. The decision, in the end, was to put women on the moon first.

Moore created the series because he was disappointed with how the Space Race ended in reality. There was such a push to get man on the moon and then it seemed to just falter. It has only been recently that there has been a new push for space exploration. Moore wondered if things would have happened differently had the Soviets got to the moon first.

For All Mankind Season 2 Premieres in February 2020

There isn’t much longer to wait for the second season. The Apple TV+ show’s premiere is set for Feb. 19, 2021.

This is later than many fans had hoped for. However, the coronavirus pandemic shut down filming with just two episodes left to film. For All Mankind was one of the first shows to resume filming in August, but protocols slowed things down.

The 10 episodes will air weekly, picking up 10 years after the first season in 1983. Ronald Reagan is now president with more ambitions to explore space. However, the Cold War tensions are at their peak, with both countries fighting for the rich resources of the moon. NASA needs to be militarized, although not everybody is happy about that. Could it lead to nuclear war?

Joel Kinnaman, Shantel VanSanten, and Sarah Jones are among the returning stars for the second season. Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, Casey W. Johnson will join as new series regulars.
