’90 Day Fiancé:’ Colt Johnson’s Girlfriend Jess Apologizes For Stereotyping Brazilian Women
Jess Caroline, 26, is known as being Colt Johnson’s new girlfriend. On Monday, June 22, Jess wrote an open letter, apologizing for comments she made which stereotyped Brazilian women. The comments were heard during a scene on the season premiere of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?
90 Day Fiancé star Jess Caroline apologizes for comments
In that scene, Jess is on a date with Colt, 35. She goes on to tell Johnson that women from her home country of Brazil “love sex.” Jess even admits some like to have sex on their first date. This comment soon sparked backlash from fans as it stereotypes Brazilian women.
In her apology, Jess says she wants fans to know she had read and listened to their messages. She wants to formally apologize to all Brazilian women she may have offended with her generalized speech. Jess does realize how “problematic” her statement was. She says she doesn’t mean to add to the “already hypersexualized stereotype of Brazilian women” in the world.
As noted by In Touch, Caroline also apologizes for the way she had expressed herself. She says she was only stating her “personal opinion.” Jess goes on to say that due to her “amateur English,” she ends up generalizing. She sees how “jeopardizing” that is.
While she can’t retract what she has said, she now wants to be transparent with everyone. She says she is sorry for the “baggage this brings” and she holds herself accountable for what she said.
Taking this as a learning opportunity
Speaking of the “deconstruction of sexism” as a daily task, Jess says she is not taking this as a loss. She rather takes it as a learning opportunity. Caroline goes on to say her messages are open and fans can talk to her about this. She hopes to not only learn more but also listen to what fans have to say.
It was during the June 14 premiere of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Jess made her debut on TLC. In that episode, fans watched Colt flying to Chicago to meet Jess and it was evident their chemistry was excellent. Colt says they just hit it off and that Jess has a “really good vibe about everything.” Johnson says Caroline is fun and he is excited to be with her.
90 Day Fiancé star Larissa Dos Santos Lima also features
Larissa Dos Santos Lima, 33, Colt’s ex-wife, also features in that episode. She shares an update with fans about her life since splitting from Colt. However, after the show, the Brazilian beauty hits Instagram with a message. Basically, she claims she is “canceling cable” due to her lack of air time on the TLC reality show.
Larissa shares another statement the following day, saying she “was wrong” for being so upset about being on the show. She has seen the preview of the next episode and knows she overreacted and spoke too soon.
