Jimmy Fallon Spoofs Soaps With ‘DOOL’: Quarantine Edition

Television shows are without their live audiences and studios. Many networks are making-do by having hosts film from their homes and guests appear remotely. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is one show taking part in keeping viewers entertained during this prolonged self-isolation.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Spoofs Days of Our Lives

Soap operas are dramatic and entertaining, no doubt. But they’re also repetitive with seemingly never-ending storylines full of unrealistic twists and turns. That’s what makes soaps great, but also what makes them open to parody.

On Wednesday’s episode of The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon and guests Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig Zoom-ed their way through a fake soap opera scene. Using DOOL’s hourglass and logo, Jimmy welcomed us to an episode of The Longest Days of Our Lives.

Jimmy and Kristen played characters who are lovers. Kristen’s character, Vanessa, had a confession for Jimmy’s Winston. She’s cheating on him. Winson exclaims, “How dare you!” But seriously, how? We’re supposed to be social distancing, he points out.

Cue Will as Winston’s brother. Except it was another brother. How many other other brothers can one person have? In soap operas: multiples.

As the skit progresses, Jimmy and Kristen have a hard time keeping it together. Jimmy, especially, is well-known for breaking character on Saturday Night Live.

The Tonight Show Sketch Hits All the DOOL Tropes

Without giving all the surprises away, The Tonight Show hit on every trope that makes soaps like DOOL great. Cheating, long-lost brothers, evil twins. They even threw in a bit of amnesia and a slap-fest.

While everyone is home in isolation, soap ratings have gone through the roof. That’s because soaps are mindless entertainment. The Tonight Show’s spoof made no sense and it was entertaining. Perhaps there will be more scenes from The Longest Days of Our Lives in the future.

Full House Gets in on the Quarantine Spoofs

The cast of Full House wasn’t going to let The Tonight Show or Jimmy Fallon have all the fun. Star John Stamos posted an updated intro to the iconic 80s show on his Instagram.

He recruited all the current cast members, except for Lori Loughlin. The Olsen twins were absent, as they have been since the show was rebooted by Netflix in 2016.

The Full Quarantine intro begins with the iconic Golden Gate bridge. Each character is shown doing something related to being quarantined. Watch the clip below on Instagram.
