Kylie Jenner has already been practicing the fine art of social distancing. Now, a Surgeon General believes she’s the answer to keeping Generation Z at home. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams wants the influencer to use her platform and fame to encourage her generation to practice social distancing.
The coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, was declared a global pandemic. Both the CDC and the government have asked everyone to practice self-isolation and social distancing. Self-isolating and social distancing means to limit contact with others and to stay home as much as possible.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues, could Kylie Jenner be the hero that Gen Z needs?
Why Kylie Jenner could be the one to urge Gen Z to stay home
As per Variety, Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams wants Kylie Jenner’s help to address the seriousness of the coronavirus. He believes she’s the perfect candidate to get them to stay home.
“We need to get our social media influencers out there in helping folks understand that this is serious,” Dr. Adams said on Good Morning America. “This is absolutely serious. People are dying.
He explained to host Michael Strahan that influencers can use social media to teach young people the risks of spreading the coronavirus. Strahan addressed that many young people have been enjoying their spring break at beaches across the nation, rather than practicing self-isolating at home. Dr. Adams explained that it’s because the younger generation doesn’t want to be told to do something they don’t want to do.
“What I really think we need to do… is get our influencers out,” Dr. Adams said. “We need to get Kylie Jenner.”
Referring to Italy as an example, Dr. Adams said that Generation Z could be at “higher risk than we previously thought.” Kylie has over 200 million followers across all of her social media platforms. She’s become one of the influential members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan. She’s also been informing her followers by posting about the pandemic.
How pregnancy “prepared” her for a life of social distancing
Kylie proved that she’s more prepared than the average Gen Z’er. The 22-year-old said on her Instagram Story that she’s been self-isolating for the past week, as per Page Six.
“I’m on day 8,” Kylie wrote. “My pregnancy prepared me for this. I didn’t want to leave the house for months.”
Kylie has also been talking about the importance of self-isolating. She calls the practice “important” so that “we aren’t endangering ourselves or anyone who can’t handle this virus.” She’s been reminding her followers daily to practice social distancing. But she’s not the only one.
Kylie’s half-sister, Kim Kardashian, revealed that she and her sisters have been practicing social distancing. Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande also encouraged their fans to self-isolate during the coronavirus outbreak.
