Fans of medical dramas may have noticed a familiar face during this week’s episode of The Good Doctor.

Robert Sean Leonard who played the role of Dr. Wilson in House made a guest appearance during this week’s episode. Leonard, however, did not play the role of a guest doctor at the hospital. Instead, he played the role of a patient who ended up at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital in an emergent situation.

The House alum played the role of an ambitious fisherman who didn’t want to part with the large fish that was jammed into his leg.

Robert Sean Leonard’s character in The Good Doctor ended up with a ironic diagnosis.

There was a bit of a hidden gem in this week’s episode of The Good Doctor that only fans of House were likely to have picked up on. Beyond the fact that Robert Sean Leonard offered a bit of nostalgia, his character’s diagnosis was ironic.

Things became a bit hectic for the enthusiastic fisherman when the fish came out of his leg and he started to gush blood. Fortunately, Claire (played by Antonia Thomas) sprung into action. She jumped on the patient and plugged the hole to stop the bleeding.

Later, the series serves up an ironic dish when they revealed Leonard’s character had cancer. House fans would have found this diagnosis ironic because Robert Sean Leonard’s character Dr. Wilson was an expert in cancer. Ultimately, it appears as if the incident with the fish is what saved the fisherman’s life. The fish allowed the doctors to discover the cancer. His character, however, did lose his leg by the time the episode came to a close.
