Many people are actually shocked to find out how grueling Dancing With The Stars can be. It’s really fun to watch celebrities and their partners compete each week, but not all fans realize how much time and energy goes into each performance. Most celebrity contestants have no dance experience and it’s a brand new ball game for them. NFL star Vernon Davis sat down with PopCulture to discuss how much he enjoyed his time on the show, even if it could be challenging.

Vernon Davis found the world of ballroom dance completely new

Many people who compete on DWTS really enjoy their time during the season. Vernon Davis was no exception.

“Dancing with the Stars was a great opportunity,” Davis said in the interview. “It was a surprising task, and I say that because when I got down and expected, be on my feet for seven hours a day, that was a challenge for me because you’re working these different muscles that you’re not used to working. And then just the whole routine, and just the craft in general, of dancing. I’m not a dancer, I’ve never been a dancer. So to be able to just take that on and have to really own this routine within the first three to four days, it’s a lot of pressure, a lot of pressure for sure.”

Some athletes really take well to the rigorous dance training and others don’t. Vernon Davis and his partner Peta Murgatroyd finished in 11th place out of 15 couples. But he wasn’t the only athlete to compete last year. NBA superstar Charles Oakley also competed on DWTS Season 29 and finished in last place.

The pair did well despite the challenges

As a former NFL player, Vernon Davis is no stranger to hard work and even possible injuries. His partner Peta Murgatroyd injured her neck during 80s Night, possibly leading to their low score that week.

“It’s the ’80s. There’s hazard pay involved, with the wigs and stuff. You could definitely tweak a neck with ’80s [routines],” judge Carrie Ann Inaba shared with ET at the time. “But I hope she’s OK, most importantly… she’ll be dancing next week so I hope she’s okay and takes care of her neck.”

Judges eliminated Peta and Vernon Davis just one week later. Fans really enjoyed seeing the two compete together and felt sad to see them go.

Who will compete in Season 30?

Dancing With The Stars comes back for Season 30 on September 20. No one is yet sure who will be part of the cast list, but an athlete or two will probably make the roster.

If you could cast any athlete you wanted, who would you cast on Season 30? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
