Tammy Slaton Says Family Should Be Thankful She’s Independent
Tammy Slaton of 1000-Lb. Sisters believes her family should be thankful she’s independent in taking care of herself. During tonight’s episode, the TLC star implies her family is slightly ungrateful and should just love her the way she is. What resulted in this conversation and what exactly did she say? Tammy Slaton tells Misty the family should be thankful
During tonight’s episode, Tammy Slaton and her sister Misty hang out while Chris has his surgery. His wife stays in the waiting room at the hospital. Tammy and Misty go grab a bite to eat and discuss things. Misty tries to figure out how Tammy is really feeling about Chris getting surgery. Most of the family worries Tammy will get even more depressed as another member of her family leaves her in the dust.
Tammy, however, insists she is happy for Chris and Amy. She explains that she would never have expected them to pause on getting their surgery just for her sake.
Misty also asks Tammy what kind of plans she has for the future. And, she pries for information on her love life. Tammy doubles down on things being over with BBW King. She, however, wants to get married one day. Tammy Slaton also tells Misty she hopes to have weight loss surgery sometime in the next five years.
Misty admits that she — and the rest of the family — want it to happen a lot faster than that. Tammy Slaton, however, thinks the family should just be happy with what they get. She tries to put Misty in her place by pointing out things could be much worse. Tammy reminds Misty that she’s still mobile. She takes care of her own hygiene and she goes to the bathroom by herself. Tammy Slaton insisted Misty and the rest of the family need to be thankful she’s mostly independent in doing things herself.
Misty admits that it is good Tammy isn’t bound to her bed requiring constant care. She — and the rest of the family — do fear Tammy is not that far off from being immobile.
Does she feel unloved by her family?
This conversation has some 1000-Lb. Sisters fans question if Tammy Slaton feels unloved by her family. After all, she suggested that her family should just love her the way she is and quit trying so hard to change her. She explained to Misty that putting pressure on her doesn’t help the situation. Even Amy Halterman admitted during tonight’s episode that her sister just isn’t ready to lose weight. Amy noted you can take a horse to water, but you cannot make the horse drink it. And, she thought that applied to Tammy.

I don’t think her family is being hard on her at all. I think Tammy needs to be treated like a person with a drug problem would be treated or else she’s going to be in some serious trouble down the line. They need to use tough love in her maybe she’ll start to make good healthy decisions, but as long as she’s being pushed around and cooked for why would she want to change she is living her life the way she wants with zero consequences. It’s just my opinion. It’s hard to care for someone when they don’t want to care for their selves.
There is no way that she is even able to wipe herself after going to the bathroom, let alone bathe herself. She has far too much fat to be able to bend or reach appropriately. There are some devices that act as an extender to wipe oneself, but those do not do a good job. Likewise, even if she was able to shower, she would not be able to reach all of those areas necessary. Nor can she stand long enough to do so. My stepfather is literally half her weight (still morbidly obese) and is unable to reach those areas. He has other disabilities, but does have full use of one arm and was able to do so before he became so overweight.
My guess is that Tammy does not want followers of the show to know that she cannot do anything without assistance. There’s nothing glamorous about it. Given her weight she cannot dress or undress herself. There is no way. Talk to any occupational therapist. Think about the machinations we all go through to do the most simple of tasks in dressing. Then think about it carrying all of that weight. Heck, just putting on 20-30 pounds can make it more difficult to perform simple tasks such as bending over to put on socks or shoes or to pull up underwear. Now, instead of just 20 pounds, think about adding 400-500.
There must be honest assessment and desire before any progress can be made. And I fear that Tammy has very little time left to make a change, if it’s not too late already. In cases such as hers it will likely be an open sore that kills her. And I suspect that was the real reason they hired Tisa. It’s doubtful that Amy and Tammy together could appropriately care for her and sores were occurring. I wish that they would be honest about the actual harm they have done to themselves and address real life concerns rather than being more worried about their online presence. I don’t watch their show all the time, so it may be they have discussed these real life issues, but I’ve not seen anything.
Tammy needs to get off of this show, off of her social media channels, and back in rehab – with no phone!
As long as she continues to receive positive reinforcement for her deadly behaviors she will keep them up. I fear the show is now about us watching Tammy slowly but surely kill herself. The show needs to stop or it needs to at least refuse to feature her again until she is healthier.
