Clayton Echard knows what people are saying about him online

Bachelor Nation fans have misgivings about Clayton Echard as the lead since the rumors began months ago. If it wasn’t already clear, the network made it obvious during After the Final Rose. Kaitlyn Bristowe had Clayton read mean tweets about himself on the live special.

Some skeptical viewers believe that was the network’s attempt to get viewers to root for the next Bachelor.

During a recent chat with Us Weekly, Clayton reveals that he knows what people are saying about him. However, he hopes that viewers will give him a chance. He jokes that he will hopefully get more airtime on The Bachelor than he did on Michelle Young’s season of The Bachelorette.

“I will say this, like, I will get a little bit more airtime — I think it’s safe to say — on my side of things here, so my personality will come out. And I think people see it for what it is and I’m excited.” – Clayton Echard, Us Weekly.

The outlet notes that Echard wants viewers to “be patient” and give him a chance to prove himself.

Promises ‘chaotic’ season on The Bachelor

Promos for Season 26 stoked the fire of controversy for fans. It appears that Clayton did a huge OOPS for Bachelor Nation – three times. As we reported previously, he drops the ‘l word’ with multiple women, a huge no-no in the franchise.

The reality star newbie teased Us Weekly about the “chaotic” season. He’s excited” to see moments among his contestants that he missed.

Clayton said, “Obviously, I heard a lot of the drama that I wasn’t present for, but now I’m like, ‘OK, maybe I’ll catch somebody that told me a story that maybe doesn’t exactly match up with what I see.’”

The biggest question Bachelor Nation has been asking is – why Clayton? He wasn’t even in Michelle Young’s top four. In fact, he was eliminated in week six.

Why he thinks ABC chose him as lead

The next Bachelor is as clueless as everyone else as to why he was chosen for Season 26. However, he has some guesses as to why the network chose him.

In Clayton’s opinion, the producers saw that he “really was wanting to find love” and would take it seriously. That doesn’t mean he was perfect throughout his season.

He admitted to Us Weekly that while he doesn’t have regrets, he has “battle scars” from appearing on the show.

Bachelorette Michelle Young & fiance defend Clayton

While fans of the franchise may  not be in Clayton’s corner yet, he has two alums firmly rooting for him. Michelle Young and her fiance, Nayte Olukoya, recently spoke up in Clayton’s defense.

During an interview with E! Online, the newly engaged couple shared details about when they plan to marry. Additionally, they revealed their thoughts about the next Bachelor.

Michelle Young confirms that Clayton is serious about looking for love. She also defends his personality. “Clayton has more sides to him than people realize. Clayton knows how to rap!” she said about her former suitor.

As for Nayte, he has nothing but love for his former competition. “Clayton really is a great guy,” he said. Nayte recounted how Clayton gave him a “pep talk” after the drama with Chris S.
