Tragedy Strikes Nick Cannon, 5 Month-Old Son Dies

Nick Cannon

Nick Cannon announced the death of his five-month-old son, Zen, on Tuesday on The Nick Cannon Show. The shocking news came after a few months of a public battle with brain cancer. In the live show on Tuesday, Cannon looked absolutely heartbroken and explained to the audience what happened.

Cannon’s Son Battled With Cancer

Cannon and Alyssa Scott welcomed their baby boy into the world in June 2021. Shortly after his birth, his son received a Hydrocephalus diagnosis. He was teary-eyed on the show talking about the condition that impacted his son. According to the Mayo Clinic, Hydrocephalus is a build-up of fluid in the cavities deep in the brain, which puts pressure on the brain. Typically other signs of the condition include sluggishness, changes in head shape or size, nausea and vomiting, and other very specific symptoms.

Nick said that he and Scott noticed the baby had a bit of a cough and trouble breathing. When they brought him to the doctor, they assumed it would be a routine visit. It was anything but routine though. The family left the appointment with the knowledge that their son, Zen, had a malignant tumor. Soon after, he had brain surgery and a shunt inserted to help drain fluid.

Around Thanksgiving, Cannon shared with his fans that things weren’t looking good for his son. He said he made a concentrated effort over the last weekend to spend as much time as he could with him because he knew he didn’t have long. While it is heartbreaking, Cannon is glad for it. They got a chance to go see the ocean together and Cannon soaked up every minute he could with the baby.

What’s Next For Nick Cannon?

There is no doubt Cannon will need some time to grieve the loss of his son. He shared with his audience that he held his son for the last time over the weekend. He told the crowd that he showed up to produce an episode of The Nick Cannon Show because it is all he knows how to do. He dedicated the episode to his son. However, Cannon does plan to take some time off in the wake of his son’s death. Live shows and tapings have been canceled. Instead, pre-taped episodes of The Nick Cannon Show will be aired. Zen was Cannon’s seventh child and the fourth born within the last year and a half. While he hasn’t announced any plans for the near future, Cannon has said he plans to spend as much time with his family as he can and recover from this loss.
