Rumors have been swirling this fall that Drew Carey is stepping down from The Price is Right. However, the comedian and longtime game show host have not made any sort of formal announcement.
What is known is that the show’s production had to be halted in 2020 due to coronavirus restrictions, affecting Drew’s long-running camera presence.
Having hosted the game show every weekday since 2007, Drew Carey has now faced unconfirmed rumors that suggest he could be leaving the show.
Why Fans Think Drew Carey Is Leave Price Is Right
When rumors started up that the host was planning on leaving The Price is Right, viewers of the game show were both worried and devastated.
Some even thought the entire show would be canceled when production was halted amid the coronavirus pandemic.
There were some who thought the long-time host was going to leave the show after his ex-fiance Amie Harwick died in February of 2020. There were some who believed that death was something that had struck at his core and made him not want to do the kind of work he’d been doing for so long.
The way in which she died was also something that seemed to hit hard for obvious reasons.
Amie was murdered by an ex-boyfriend, after the restraining order she took out against him expired.
At the time he made it clear that while they weren’t together, he still had feelings for her.
“Amie and I had a love that people are lucky to have once in a lifetime,” he wrote on social media. “She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist. I am overcome with grief. I would like to thank you in advance for giving myself and everyone who loved Amie privacy while we try to work through this tragic situation.”
Is He Leaving?
While rumors have fired up that Drew Carey is planning on leaving his show, there’s been no confirmation.
The host is 63 years old. That’s certainly old enough he might be thinking about giving it up.
However, he’s also still young enough that he could have years left. The wildcard is whether or not the pandemic has made the job less entertaining.
It can be hard for someone like Drew Carey to go back to the job like nothing happened. After having so much time off, it’s possible he realized he doesn’t want to do it anymore.
Sources have said he’s not dealing with the loss of Amie very well. It’s possible that could play a factor. If he can’t get over her death, he might need to fade away from public view.
However, it’s clear nothing has been officially decided.
