Preview: ‘Tough Love with Hilary Farr’ Showcases Designer’s Non-Sugar-Coated Strengths

Great news for Hilary Farr fans, and that includes me, as the killer queen bee of reno is back on her own as she reads the room, literally. Finally, Hilary gives the folks what they want: unfiltered truth bombs about their bad taste and dud design ideas.

Her new series on HGTV is Tough Love with Hilary Farr, and we are here for this no sugar-coated dish.

Farr is HGTV’s famous interior designer, best known for her elegant redesigns on HGTV’s fan-favorite series Love It or List It. Now she will star in her first solo series, Tough Love with Hilary Farr.

About Tough Love with Hilary Farr

Coming to HGTV on December 20, the eight-episode series will spotlight Hilary helping families improve their lives and homes with just the right amount of direct feedback and tough love.

Armed with wit and a way to make magic happen with textiles and layouts, she will rid these folks of their indecision and help them improve their homes to suit their needs better.

And ss a mother, business owner, and life partner, Hilary will draw inspiration from her extensive design experience, as well as her life lessons, as she creates solutions to get these families’ lives on the right track.

“For years, I’ve helped thousands of people love their homes,” said Hilary in a press statement to TV Shows Ace. “Now I’m working with families whose problems are way bigger than bad floor plans. Upgrading these spaces will be a challenge, but transforming these homeowners’ lives is where the real work begins. The result is always worth it.”

The episodes

The premiere episode will feature a newly married couple who desperately need Hilary’s expertise as they bring their family under one roof for the first time.

Their challenges include a severe lack of storage, entertaining, and home office space, as Hilary will develop a design plan to solve these issues and ultimately improve the home’s flow.

As she does, this Houdini will find extra space in surprising places, such as converting unused garage space into a functional home office and upgrading the meh so-so basement into an entertaining center complete with a wet bar and hightop table for guests.

During the series, Hilary will find solutions for a variety of home design fails, including updating the properties that seem stuck in another era, finding extra room in tiny houses, and adding a suite for the company that will want to come and visit once her work is complete.

In the particular preview clip below, Farr explains that for years she has helped thousands of people love their homes and keep them instead of listing with her Love It or List It partner David Visentin.

She is working with families whose problems seem to be more than just bad floorplans and tacky decor. The sign people, giant clock people, and those who shove couches and furniture against walls are on notice.

Hilary cedes she is “a bit short on the sugar” and lets people know exactly her thoughts. And that blending a family is way more than just bringing people together. She tells a couple that they have to make the house make sense and work for two people.
