DOOL is revisiting one of its most controversial storylines ever – Marlena’s possession. Robert Scott Wilson (Ben) and Deidre Hall (Marlena) appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show this week to drop some teasers about the 2021 storyline.

Days of Our Lives revisiting possession storyline

In 1995, soap operas took a huge hit when the OJ Simpson trial took over daytime television for months. In an effort to draw viewers back in, DOOL aired arguably the most shocking storyline ever. Fan-favorite and constant heroine Marlena Evans (Hall) fell victim to the devil.

The possession storyline lasted from around Halloween until Easter when John (Drake Hogestyn) performed an exorcism. At the time, he believed he was a priest. Marlena was free of the devil for the last 25 years.

But things are spooky in Salem again. Not only is Marlena possessed again, the devil has Doug (Bill Hayes) in his grip, too.

With a new head writer, DOOL is taking the new possession storyline to another level.

DOOL recreating movie Rosemary’s Baby with Ciara?

The original MarDevil, as fans dubbed possessed Marlena, was out for revenge against Kristen (then-Eileen Davidson.) However, it seems the newly revived demon has his sights on Ben (Wilson) and Ciara (Victoria Konefal.)

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Robert Scott Wilson confirmed the spoilers that not only is Ciara pregnant, the devil is after the baby.

While the original possession was based on the movie The Exorcist, it seems the revisitation is inspired by Rosemary’s Baby.

The 1968 film by controversial director Roman Polanski starred Mia Farrow in her breakout role as Rosemary, a pregnant woman from Manhattan who believes the devil is the father of her baby.

Talking about the honor of being involved in the retelling of the iconic possession storyline, Robert Scott Wilson dropped a HUGE spoiler. “She [MarDevil] is coming after my baby,” he said as Deidre Hall chimed in “coming after his baby!”

“[Ben and Ciara’s] baby is gonna possibly be possessed,” he shared, to gasps from the audience and host Kelly Clarkson. How long will the possession storyline last? Hall gives a hint during her appearance on the daytime talk show.

Deidre Hall teases Christmas miracle for MarDevil

In a feature about the new possession storyline, Entertainment Weekly revealed that the original was only supposed to last three months. However, the MarDevil storyline lasted six months.

The most iconic scene from the storyline – Marlena levitating from the bed – aired around Christmas.

According to Deidre Hall, the revamped possession storyline plays out through at least Christmas. She told Kelly Clarkson that “the story goes all the way through Christmas.”

The DOOL vet teased that “a huge Christmas show” involves the possession storyline. Will Salem get a Christmas miracle that exorcises the demon from Marlena? Fans will have to tune, though many fans have been tuning OUT of the controversial storyline.
