Haikyu!! is a Japanese anime series based on a shonen manga by Haruichi Furudate. There are claims that this is one of the most popular series since it came out in 2012. So, why is Haikyu!! leaving Netflix? Keep reading to find out more.

What is Haikyu!!

Haikyu!! currently has 36 manga volumes. So, a new chapter comes out almost every week.

The anime is about Hinata Shouyou. Even though Hinata has a small stature, he still has aspirations to be a volleyball player. He perseveres even after his middle school team is defeated. After that, Hinata vows to defeat the rival setter, Kageyama Tonio.

In a twist of fate, Hinata’s dream is crushed. This is because in high school he and Kageyama end up on the same team. As What’s On Netflix reports “the Small Gian and King of the COurt must set aside their differences and together lead Karasuno to become the best high school volleyball team in Japan.”

Why is the anime leaving Netflix

While Haikyu!! is leaving Netflix, fans still have time to watch. The anime isn’t set to leave the streaming service until Monday, November 1, 2021. Interestingly enough, it appears that Haikyu!! is leaving Netflix because the license to stream is expiring. This assumption is based on the fact that the first two seasons came to the streaming service on November 1, 2019.

Of interesting note, just because this anime is set to be removed from the streaming library, that doesn’t mean that it will, or that it won’t come back. What’s On Netflix points out that fans have seen this in the past. For example, Attack on Titan has been renewed regularly.

How to watch besides Netflix

However, if Netflix doesn’t renew Haikyu!! at the last minute, there are some options to continue watching the series. All four seasons are available for streaming on Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll only has the Japanese Dub with English subtitles available. In the United States, fans can watch on VRV with English subtitles. Lastly, fans can watch the anime on HIDIVE in English subs or English dubs.
