You might not know it from watching him in the ballroom, but Dancing With The Stars pro Gleb Savchenko had a pretty serious health scare this summer.
Is he better now and is it still affecting his health? He recently got candid about his condition on an episode of Cheryl Burke’s podcast, Pretty Messed Up.
Gleb Savchenko battled COVID-19 and won
For the better part of two years, COVID-19 has caused some heavy damage all over the world. Plenty of Dancing With The Stars castmates had the virus at some point by now. Many had mild symptoms. But for Gleb Savchenko, it was unfortunately a wild ride.
“Three months ago I was unvaccinated and I got delta,” he admitted. “My heart was like 167 beats per minute. I fainted a couple of times. I called 911 twice.”
The Russian native advised anyone who isn’t currently vaccinated to go and get their shot.
“I was dying. Literally dying. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. It was just bad. I was home for two weeks. It was bad. It was the worst.”
The pro dancer didn’t say where he caught COVID-19. However, if you follow Gleb on Instagram, you’ve probably seen his many outings and vacations with friends. It’s possible he picked it up during one of these trips.
Fortunately, it really seems like Gleb is in much better shape these days. If he has any lingering COVID-19 symptoms, it doesn’t seem to impact his performance. He and Spice Girl Mel C are doing remarkably well in the competition thus far.
Many fans are excited to see what the dynamic duo comes up with next week.
Other DWTS pros battle the novel Coronavirus
If you’ve been following Dancing With The Stars this season, you’re probably aware of the ongoing situation with Cheryl Burke and Cody Rigsby. Just before the September 27 episode, Cheryl tested positive for COVID-19. And it’s been chaos ever since.
The judges reviewed a prerecorded rehearsal of Cheryl and Cody’s performance for the September 27 episode. And the pair performed remotely for the October 4 episode. Although the pair seems to perform well when they’re in the ballroom, they’re struggling to keep high scores when they have to perform from home. Hopefully they’ll be back for next week’s episode.
Meanwhile, judge Derek Hough was missing from his spot at the judges’ table last night. According to hostess Tyra Banks, Derek had a potential COVID-19 exposure and voluntarily chose to sit the episode out.
All Dancing With The Stars fans really hope this is the end of the COVID-19 drama on the set. We hope everyone makes a full recovery and is able to continue competing on the show.
If you want Gleb and Mel C to stay in the competition, don’t forget to vote! You can catch all your favorite dancers back in the ballroom on Monday night, only on ABC.
