Magnum PI is coming back for Season 4. In fact, the next season of the popular CBS show is going to be back quicker than some of its fans might realize.
What Is ‘Magnum PI’
The reboot of the classic series is already getting quite a bit of attention for its new character additions. This particular reboot of the series that originally starred Tom Selleck has another interesting wrinkle for the fans and the network. Magnum PI is set in the same universe as Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver.
The series follows Magnum (played by Jay Hernandez in this iteration), a former Navy SEAL turned Private Investigator who solves crimes in Hawaii.
Critics’ consensus on the show’s ratings is lukewarm at best, with Rotten Tomatoes showing a 57 percent grade. However, the audience approved with a healthy 72 percent. The success among viewers drove CBS to renew the series for three more seasons.
Season 4 will pick up where the last season left off with a debut episode titled ‘Island Vibes.’ The official synopsis of the pilot episode reads:
“As Magnum tries to keep his new relationship a secret and handles cases solo while Higgins is away, he is tasked with finding a single mom being hunted by two very dangerous gangs. Also, while Higgins is abroad with Ethan, a misstep forces her to assist an old employer, and Rick gets some bad, but also very, very good news, on the fourth season premiere.”
There is going to be a bit of a shakeup to who people will see on Magnum PI this fall. Last year, the titular character bid goodbye to Juliet Higgins (Perdita Weeks) as she left to accompany Ethan (Jay Ali) on his six-month Doctors Without Borders stint in Kenya.
The goodbye left the audience on the edge of their seats. In fact, T.C. even nudges Magnum to tell Higgins how he felt about her. However, he falls short of that.
When Is Season 4 Finally Arriving
The wait for the next season is almost over. Magnum PI Season 4 will debut on October 1 on CBS.
Along with network TV, CBS is available across a number of apps including, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, FuboTV, and AT&T TV.
The real question at this point is just how much longer the series can go. CBS did indeed pick up Seasons 2, 3, and 4 at the same time, but so far, there hasn’t been another renewal.
The original series, starring Tom Selleck and a male version of Higgins in John Hillerman ran for a whopping eight years and had a great deal of success as both a drama and crime show, that had quite a few comedic beats.
It also stood out as one of the only shows that really focused on Vietnam veterans and what went on in that war. The rebooted Magnum PI has had a reshuffle in that regard.
