There are plenty of fans of Netflix’s original Sneakerheads who are wondering whether or not the show got a Season 2. The program likely isn’t one of the most popular on the streaming service, when being compared to shows like Big Mouth or other adult comedies, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a pretty good following.
We’ve just passed the one-year anniversary of Season 1 debuting on Netflix so it makes some sense that fans fo the program are waiting and wondering whether the steaming service is going to give them more of the content they’ve fallen in love with.
There is something of a pattern that might make fans of the show feel a bit better about the fact that things are largely mum. On September 25, 2021, the series came to Netflix after a quick surprise announcement the month prior. The show originally came from Complex Networks who are mainly known for web shows on YouTube and its blog which attracts around 10 million visitors a month.
Season 1 consisted of six episodes and was created by Jay Longino who has worked on movies such as Uncle Drew and Skiptrace. Among the cast of relative unknowns are Allen Maldonado, Andrew Bachelor, Jearnest Corchado, and Matthew Josten.
Where Sneakerheads Left Off
Those who didn’t get to see Season 1 can catch up relatively quickly thanks to it’s light load of episodes. In the show’s first season, Devin, a former sneakerhead turned stay-at-home dad, finds himself deep in the hole after falling for one of old friend Bobby’s crazy schemes. To get his money back, the duo goes on the hunt for the most elusive “kicks” in the game.
Reviews were fairly good from audiences (it carries a 6.2 on IMDb and a 71 percent RottenTomatoes audience score) however critics weren’t as kind. The Netflix show garnered just 57 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from professional critics. Top 10 data revealed that the show didn’t make the kind of impact a program might need to do in order to clinch a second season.
Is Season 2 On The Way?
According to FlixPatrol, the show only kept in the top 10s in the US for six days. Typically, shows that spend 30 days or more in the top 10s are a sure bet to return.
The bad news for Sneakerheads fans is that while there is a devoted fanbase, it doesn’t appear that it’s strong enough. As the calendar rolls towards the end of September, the show still hasn’t gotten a renewal.
At this point, a Season 2 seems unlikely.
Another bad sign is the fact that Maldonado is now in a brand new show as part. Maldonado is playing Rooster Robbins in the Starz series Heels. While there isn’t a definitive answer on a renewal, it appears Sneakerheads is over.
