Netflix Original movie The Mother
So far, only vague details are available for the plot of The Mother. The story revolves around a deadly female assassin who was forced to go on the run, giving up her only daughter. However, several years later, the assassin returns in order to protect her daughter from some extremely dangerous men.
Directing the Netflix Original action-thriller is Niki Caro, who recently worked on Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan. Meanwhile, the scriptwriter of The Mother is Misha Green, who was formerly the showrunner for HBO’s cosmic-horror series, Lovecraft Country. Production is being handled by Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions and is the first of a recently announced creative partnership with the streaming channel.
According to the official IMDb Pro page for The Mother, filming is set to begin on October 4, 2021, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Filming will be complete around the end of January 2022. However, filming dates are subject to change in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
Who is starring in the action-thriller movie?
Before starring as the female lead in The Mother, Lopez is, of course, famous for her pop music career. However, over the years, she has starred in a number of movies. She is noticeably famous for her role as Selena Quintanilla in the biopic Selena and as Ricki in Gigli. Meanwhile, her music has featured in many movies and TV shows.
Variety reports that besides J. Lo as the lead actress, Joseph Fiennes, Gael Garcia Bernal and Omari Hardwick will be starring in The Mother. Fiennes is most recently known in his role as Fred Waterford in Hulu’s dystopian series The Handmaid’s Tale. However, his most famous role was likely that of William Shakespeare in the Oscar-winning film, Shakespeare in Love.
Mexican heartthrob Gael Garcia Bernal has starred in many Spanish language films. However, he will not only be starring in The Mother this year, but will also take on the iconic role of Zorro in the upcoming film remake Z.
Anyone that has streamed Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead will recognize Omari Hardwick. He is also the lead in the popular STARZ series Power, as James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick, between 2014 and 2020. Meanwhile, other cast members include Lucy Paez (Silencio) and Paul Raci (Sound of Metal).
When can we expect to see The Mother on Netflix?
With filming only expected to conclude at the end of January 2022, it is likely that The Mother will only drop sometime in 2023. However, with a little bit of luck, it could debut on the streaming channel by the end of 2022.
