Sabrina Burkholder has had a rough road to recovery. The Breaking Amish alum who is now a part of the Return to Amish cash has been through quite a lot since she first became a reality television star.
There was even a time when she had to fight off allegations that she was someone who had very loose morals.
While things haven’t always been great, it appears that Sabrina Burkholder is getting a handle on her life. She’s just celebrated the birth of her fifth child. And she recently talked about how her recovery from heroin addiction is going.
Sabrina Burkholder Had A Near-Fatal Overdose
Back in 2018, the Return to Amish star nearly died of a heroin overdose. It appears that was also a wake-up call of sorts. Not long after being open about that situation she also told the media that they wouldn’t hear from her again “for a long time.”
It turns out she was true to her word. It wasn’t until earlier this year that she started opening up and going public about her life again. That included spilling the beans about the birth of her fifth child with her boyfriend, Jethro.
She also talked about how she has been doing in the aftermath of that overdose and how her recovery is going.
“I’ve been clean now for over three years,” she told People Magazine. “I moved out of Pennsylvania and changed my ‘people, places, things.’ I had to change everything in order to become the person that I needed to be.
The people, places and things were clearly an important point in the reality star getting clean. She mentioned more than once that she now understands the crowd she was spending time with, was not helping her stay clean and sober.
“When you hang out with the wrong people and put yourself in that situation over and over,” she added. “You’re never going to get better. You have to be willing to do whatever it takes.”
Doing Whatever It Takes
If indeed she has been clean for three years, it marks some significant steps to try and make sure she’s around for her growing family.
Sabrina Burkholder welcomed daughter Kalani Ariyah via cesarean section on September 7, with the newborn weighing 6 lbs., 9 oz., and measuring 19 inches long. Baby Kalani joins older siblings Zekiah, 2, and Skylar, 1.
The reality star’s two older children, who are seven and five years old are currently living with a family member. While the Breaking Amish alum is clearly in a better place mentally and physically than she was just a few years ago, it doesn’t appear the current living situation with her children is set to change anytime soon.
Of course, if Sabrina Burkholder continues to get better, the situation could see something occur on that front as well.
