Olympian Suni Lee’s Father Gets Touching Present From Simone Biles
If you watched the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, you witnessed gymnast Suni Lee completely dominate the rest of the competition. Her family cheered her on from back home. Her father, John, is a wheelchair user. He sustained injuries in an accident from a fall from a ladder in 2019.
But John Lee recently received quite a wonderful surprise from one of his daughter’s teammates, Simone Biles. The Today Show recently put out a heartwarming story documenting the occasion.
Simone Biles had a very generous gift for Suni Lee’s father
It’s clear to anyone who followed the Lee family’s story that they deserve only the best. And Simone Biles thinks so too.
“Hi, Mr. Lee, it’s Simone. I love your daughter, Suni, so much and I know how much she loves you,” Simone said in a video that John watched from a tablet. “You have done so much for her so I reached out to my friends at the Today Show to see if we could do something special for you. Hope you like it.”
The surprise in question? A brand new custom-fitted electric wheelchair. Up until now, John Lee used a manual wheelchair and often needed assistance. This new electric model will allow him to have more independence.
“Well, this is amazing. Thank you, guys,” John Lee exclaimed in delight. He’s really thankful for the thoughtful gift.

John Lee has always been one of his daughter’s biggest supporters. Suni Lee won three medals during the 2020 Olympic games — including the gold medal in the all-around competition. Simone Biles chose to sit out several events citing mental health concerns but showed up to support her teammates anyway.
“I want to tell her team that no matter what, you all support her and I want to tell Simone that she truly is the GOAT because she let my baby girl bring the gold medal,” John Lee said regarding the American Olympic gymnastic team.
Suni Lee felt absolutely ecstatic to take home the gold medal.
“Coming into this competition, I didn’t even think that I could be competing for a gold medal. I was coming to compete for a silver medal. To be here, it’s crazy,” she told reporters shortly after the event.
Something new and exciting is on the horizon
And now, John Lee will have something new to cheer about. Suni Lee will compete on Dancing With The Stars Season 30. Her teammate Simone Biles competed in Season 24 with Sasha Farber and came in 4th place. Olympic gymnasts typically do very well and generally make it to at least the finales. Laurie Hernandez and Shawn Johnson even brought home the Mirrorball Trophy on their seasons. Could Suni Lee be the next Mirrorball champion?
