‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’: What To Expect From Live-Action Casting

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Avatar: The Last Airbender is an American animated television series. For three seasons, fans were able to watch the series on Nickelodeon. The concept of Avatar is that certain people can manipulate the four elements– water, earth, fire, and air. The premise of this is that the people use telekinetic variants of the Chinese martial arts called “bending.” Consequently, someone that can bend all four elements is called the Avatar. Furthermore, the Avatar is responsible for maintaining the balance between the world’s four nations.

What is Avatar: The Last Airbender?

Notably, among the first of its kind, Avatar: The Last Airbender receives successful ratings and critical acclaim. The style of this series combines anime with American cartoons. Not only that, but the series invokes the imagery of East Asian, South Asian, New World, Inuit, and Sireniki influences.

Remarkably, the Avatar franchise is still active. There is an ongoing comic series, a prequel novel series, and an animated sequel series. All of this is in addition to the highly-anticipated live-action film and live-action remake. The live-action remake of the series is produced for Netflix.

There is confirmation that the main characters Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko will be a part of the live-action series in the works for Netflix.  Additionally, there is speculation that the biggest villains from the franchise will also be a part of the upcoming series. However, it shouldn’t be that shocking since it will put things in line with the animated series.

A major player is slated to join the cast

Several outlets are reporting that Azula will join the storyline for the live-action series remake. For people interested in viewing the live-action remake that hasn’t seen the animated series, Azula is the sister of Zuko. She is also the princess of the Fire Nation.

While in the cartoon, Azula doesn’t make her appearance until Season 2, Avatar News on Twitter confirms that she is currently being cast for Season 1 of the live-action. The tweet also mentions that there are no further details yet.
