‘Love Island USA’: COVID-19 Outbreak On Set Of Dating Show

Networks, News, Reality TV

The Love Island USA curse continues. As TV Shows Ace previously reported, Season 3 of the hit CBS dating show hasn’t had much luck. Fans are not liking how this season is playing out. Most of their favorites left, even though they voted. There’s a mixed bag of originals and new islanders left.

Viewers criticized every bit of the show, from the islanders’ political leanings to the authenticity of their relationships. Meanwhile, residents in the area are hoping that CBS will wrap up filming soon. They can’t deal with the stress from the increase in traffic and noise in their neighborhood. The sooner may end sooner than later with the latest COVID-19 outbreak.

Five people contract coronavirus

On Monday, August 9, a report revealed that five people from the set of Love Island USA tested positive for COVID-19. The outbreak affected CBS production. The show is currently filming its third season in Ninole and Hilo on the island of Hawaii. Film Commissioner Donne Dawson confirmed the case on Sunday, August 8.

However, news broke on social media on Saturday. Hawaii’s Department of Health “has been notified, contact tracing has been done for all cases, and those in close contact are in quarantine, and testing of those cases will continue,” Dawson told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Cast and crew followed the strict health and safety precautions.

The show’s production company ITV Entertainment said that it “has gone beyond both the CDC and the union ‘return to work’ COVID guidelines for production.” In their email statement, they revealed that some of the protocols include “high-frequency testing (2-3 times per week), PPE for everyone not on camera, contact tracing, and quarantine protocols.” Production is currently in touch with state and local officials, according to health guidelines.

Love Island USA producers remaining safe

An outbreak like this would be enough to shut down filming. The production company behind Love Island USA say they are keeping an eye on the “health and safety of our cast and crew.” Dawson argues that the film and TV industries are “probably the safest of any industry right now.” Hawaii alone has “gone for months and months with zero to one or two isolated positive cases on any one of the productions statewide.”

Production takes place away from the nearby community. The Islanders already isolate inside the villa. Health Department spokesperson Brooks Baehr claims he never heard about the outbreak. Normally, the department doesn’t reveal the exact location of the COVID-19 cases “unless there is an imminent health threat.” On Sunday, the Department of Health reported 643 new cases.

Love Island USA is set to wrap up soon. America will vote for their favorite couple. For the first time in the show’s history, a loved-up couple may not win. Both residents and viewers will be happy to see this show end.
