Malia White talked about her hesitancy to return to Below Deck Mediterranean Season 6. She made controversy during Season 5. Fans blame Malia and Captain Sandy Yawn for their treatment of former chief stew Hannah Ferrier and her subsequent firing. She carried an unregistered prescription for Valium and a CBD pen.

Filming for Season 6 resumed shortly thereafter. Malia and Sandy were back together but on a newer yacht. Once fans caught wind, they vowed to boycott the new season. Was Malia reluctant to return to a new season after the previous one was dramatic than ever?

Below Deck Med star talks about reluctancy to film a new season

Malia White opened up about Season 6 of Below Deck Mediterranean. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, she revealed whether she was hesitant to return to a new season. Malia just came off the heels of a dramatic and history-breaking season. She was also in the midst of her split from Chef Tom Checketts.

The bosun said that Season 6 was “the season that [she’s] always wanted.” Last year, she received backlash for her behavior. She reported Hannah to Captain Sandy after she found the former chief stew’s anti-anxiety medication and vape pen in the cabin they shared. Malia’s controversial decision did not go over well with fans.

Hannah lost her job as a result. Fans accused Malia of acting like a “snake” and “ruining” the show. She still stands by her decision to report her former co-star. But did she want to film another season?

“I want to eventually be a captain, so yeah, I was a little hesitant to come back after all that, because I was like, ‘I really want a career in this industry, not in the TV industry,” Malia explained.

The reason why she returned is that she wanted the viewers to see another side to her. She is glad she made that decision since she calls Season 6 the most fun to film. Nonetheless, Malia gets into a major argument with Sandy, which is documented in the Season 6 trailer. The captain calls her out for not filing an accident report involving one of her deckhands.

Malia White shares her “most intense moment” of the season

She gets into her share of drama this year. Malia White already found herself in the middle of stew Lexi Wilson’s drunken rage in a previous episode. The bosun says it’s “terrifying,” especially since Lexi likes to refer to herself as “Satan.” But the “most intense moment” was her argument with Sandy.

“I definitely got to see the other side to Captain Sandy toward me, but I think, yeah, when you see what it’s about and things, I think you’ll realize it’s because she’s holding me to a higher standard, which is sometimes frustrating, but it’s also understandable.”

Fans were hoping to see things change between Sandy and Malia. It appears that the two quickly get over this argument. The two are still on good terms to this day. Sandy has a lot of respect for Malia despite this little snafu.

Below Deck Med airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
