Lucy Lawless as Alexa

There is so much TV content, streaming, and otherwise, that TV Shows Ace wants to give you the heads up for an excellent Acorn streaming series, My Life is Murder.  The series stars Spartacus star and award-winning actor Lucy Lawless and is filmed in New Zealand.

The Acorn TV Original series My Life is Murder returns on August 30 for its second season with new mysteries to solve. The season two trailer was released today.

The clip below shows retired detective Alexa Crowe (Lawless) heading back to her Kiwi roots, where an unsolved murder sets her back into detective mode.

More exciting cast news for My Life Is Murder.

This season of My Life is Murder will reunite Lawless with several former Spartacus castmates, including Anna Hutchison and Graham Vincent.  Alexa is joined again by her partner-in-crime-solving, Madison Feliciano played perfectly by actor Ebony Vagulans.

Alexa will be joined by charismatic detective Harry, Rawiri Jobe, and café owner Reuben, and Joe Naufahu as Alexa soon finds herself drawn into solving other murder mysteries in what Acorn describes as “surprising, glamorous worlds filled with intriguing characters who are hiding dangerous and deadly secrets. ”

Also appearing are Jay Ryan (Beauty and The Beast) and Bruce Hopkins (Xena: Warrior Princess), along with more acclaimed actors in guest star roles including William Shatner, Martin Henderson, Bill Bailey, Michelle Ang, Sara Wiseman, Matt Whelan, popular drag performers Kita Mean (RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under), Amanduh La Whore and many more.

What is the premise?

If you love an escapist murder mystery, get to know Lawless’ Alexa. The cat-and-mouse series was created by Claire Tonkin (Lawless is also an executive producer), who infuses the action with a lighter tone.  Alexa’s job is to put the pieces of murder (never shown) together to solve the crime.

This story will appeal to those who love an old-fashioned mystery series. However, the key to a show worth watching versus the run-of-the-mill TV is both the writing and the quality of the ensemble cast in various roles. Lawless as Alexa is flawless, and her supporting stars are equally well-matched and deliver a fun-to-watch yarn.

TV Shows Ace gives My Life Is Murder two thumbs up. Especially if you are searching for a series with wide appeal to settle into that is neither too hardcore, full of bad language, or in any way too adult in intention. Instead, it’s an entertaining well-written mystery that appeals across the board.

The new season will premiere on AMC Networks’ acclaimed streamer Acorn TV on Monday, August 30, with two new episodes weekly on Mondays.
