Alter Ego, a new singing competition show is coming to Fox this fall and it’s going to have a rather interesting take on the genre. Now that it’s been officially announced, the program has also announced who will serve as the judges and host.
As a direct follow-up to The Masked Singer, this will also hide the true identities of its contestants. It will do so in a way that hasn’t ever been seen on television.
Alter Ego will have all its contestants get a digital, Avatar version of them. It’s these characters that will appear on the screen when a contestant is singing. The point appears to be that the judges won’t be making their decisions on anything other than musical prowess.
In order to set the show apart, it’s also got quite the lineup of judges. Several of those judges are also very famous musicians. The Fox show also has a high-profile host that will introduce viewers to the program on a weekly basis.
According to Deadline, the lineup is a rather unexpected one. Alanis Morissette, Grimes, Nick Lachey & will.iam are to join the judges’ table of the new Fox music format with Rocsi Diaz set as host.
‘Alter Ego’ And Its Rookies
Deadline said that the lineup is unorthodox because there are quite a few rookies. While Lachey co-hosted Love Is Blind and was featured on Fox’s The Masked Singer, and will.i.am serves as a coach on the UK version of The Voice, Morissette and Grimes are making their network competition judging debuts.
While Morissette doesn’t have a history of judging singing competitions, the singer best known for her Jagged Little Pill album, has a history with Fox. That may have been the reason she was selected. Morissette having recurred on the animated series The Great North. Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, recently released her concept album Miss Anthropocene and is the partner of Tesla founder Elon Musk.
Rookie Television Host As Well
When it comes to “rookies” being on the show, Rosci Diaz is also a bit of an unknown. However, she is well known in the specific entertainment genre.
Diaz co-hosts music show 106 & Park, Dating Naked and Cannonball. She’s making the jump to this kind of program for the first time.
Alter Ego is going to be airing starting this fall and will be debuting right after The Masked Singer. Fox appears to be trying to make itself the network that has this kind of show. Hiding the identities of the singers in order to try and make it so that people aren’t judging people by their appearance appears to be a new trend.
Whether or not Alter Ego ends up being another success for Fox is yet to be seen.
