In 2002, Jim Bob Duggar ran to be a part of the U.S. Senate in Arkansas. Back then, he made some interesting comments about rape. Now, as word of his son Josh’s arrest has gone public, the comments he made back then have resurfaced.

Jim Bob Duggar: ‘The rapist should be executed’

In the Q&A section of his campaign site, Jim Bob was asked about his thoughts on “abortion… specifically, where do you stand on rape, incest, and threat to the mother’s health.”

To this, the TLC star replied, “If a woman is raped, the rapist should be executed instead of the innocent unborn baby. Rape and incest represent heinous crimes and as such should be treated as capital crimes.”

The 19 Kids & Counting patriarch ended up losing the Republican bid.

Josh’s molestation, rape, and child sexual abuse content allegations

The public knows about Josh’s past. Just a week ago, he was arrested for the possession of child sexual abuse content. This week, he was released on conditions until his trial in July. The feds state that the content found on Josh’s laptop at his car lot included some of the worst they have ever seen. Some of the content included children as young as 18 months old. He reportedly had over 200 images on his computer.

Over the years, Josh has been accused of raping a porn star and using a website known for finding extramarital affairs. He also admitted to molesting his sisters as a teenager.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar make statement on Josh’s arrest

Following Josh’s arrest, his parents issued a statement on behalf of the family. They stated:

“We appreciate your continued prayers for our family at this time. The accusations brought against Joshua today are very serious. It is our prayer that the truth, no matter what it is, will come to light, and that this will all be resolved in a timely manner. We love Josh and Anna and continue to pray for their family.”

So, this is quite a different response than Jim Bob’s quotes about rape in 2002.
