‘Loki’ Gets A New Premiere Date & Day On Disney Plus

Loki

Disney Plus is making a couple of changes to Loki’s premiere on the streamer. Not only is it coming earlier, but it’s getting a new day.

Wednesdays are the new Fridays, according to the announcement from Disney. Loki is making a switch to Wednesday nights, although it’s not 100% clear why that’s happening. TVLine reported the news, along with the new premiere date.

When Will Loki Now Premiere on Disney Plus?

The move is an odd one. Streaming networks have opted for Friday releases for the bulk of their shows for some time. It allows people to binge-watch throughout the weekend, as well as tune in with the rest of their families. Disney Plus has followed that release pattern, even with the weekly release format. It has been successful for shows like The MandalorianWandaVision, and the latest The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The only difference was Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which premiered on Tuesday, May 4. That was a strategic decision considering May 4 is Star Wars Day.

Disney hasn’t mentioned why this change is coming, but it has meant a change to the premiere date. As TV Shows Ace initially reportedLoki was set to hit airwaves on Friday, June 11. However, it will now premiere on Wednesday, June 9.

The premiere is just two days earlier than initially expected. The series will then air on Wednesdays throughout the rest of the season. There are six episodes streaming weekly on the platform.

What to Expect on the New Marvel Series

Tom Hiddleston returns in the titular role, one that he’s certainly made his own in the MCU movies. For those who don’t remember, Loki was killed during Avengers: Endgame. In fact, he attempted to save his brother, Thor, and people on their ship from Thanos and died for his efforts. This time it wasn’t a glimmer, but he really did die.

So, how could he come back? That’s something the promo for the series shared. Loki’s involvement with the Tesseract during the first Thor movie changed time and broke reality. The Time Variance Authority, which protects time’s proper flow, brings him back to answer for his crimes.

Of course, the Trickster is not going to stick around in chains for too long. He’ll find his way out, and it could be with the help of people within the Time Variance Authority. He may need to help fix the break in reality that he has caused. How long will it take to get into that part of the storyline? Fans will have to wait to find out.

The series is another one of Marvel’s Phase 4 productions, catching fans up on where the characters from the movies are after Iron Man’s death and Captain America stepping down and changing his own timeline. It won’t be long before the movies continue the story.

Loki will now premiere on Disney Plus on Wednesday, June 9, and air on Wednesdays weekly.
