‘Shameless’ Season 11 Series Finale: Did Frank Actually Die?
Last week’s episode left fans wondering if Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy) would die in the Shameless Season 11 Series Finale. The episode ended with Frank shooting up a significant amount of heroin. Fans assumed this was curtains for Frank. Or, at least they did until they watched the preview for the Series Finale. During the preview for the Finale, we see Frank in a hospital bed. And, we hear Lip talking to someone about how Frank tried to “OD again.”
So, we know he doesn’t die at that moment at the end of last week’s episode. But, things still don’t look good for Frank as he appears to be knocking on death’s door. Will the series take Frank with it as it comes to an end?

Shameless Season 11 Series Finale: Does Frank Die?
Most describe Frank Gallagher as the cockroach of society. It doesn’t seem like much has been able to take Frank out over the years. So, some fans are having a hard time wrapping their heads around the idea of this character coming to an end. That being said, killing off Frank is one very effective way to end the series. After all, a lot of the kids’ problems stem from their alcoholic father.
The drugs Frank tried to OD on during the end of last week’s episode end up not killing him. He gets up and wanders off while no one was paying attention. Liam spends some time looking for him. But, gives up. His brother Lip clues him in on the fact that he used to go looking for Frank when he ran off too. Like Liam, he also never had any luck finding their elusive, drunk father. Lip, however, reassures his brother Frank always comes back… Eventually. Little did he know, that would not be the case this time.
At one point in time during his venture, Frank has a woman yell at him to put on a mask. So, he picks one up off the ground and puts one on. Very Frank-like thing to do. But, disgusting all the same. This was a very distinct moment during the Season Finale. It might’ve been the moment that Frank got really sick.
So, How Did The Gallagher Father Pass Away?
At the very end of the episode, Frank dies in the hospital with a nurse holding his hand. His fever spiked and he tested positive for COVID. It was a pretty sad way to say goodbye to the character as he was very much alone. But, he got to see his life pass before his eyes on his way out the door. This allowed fans to see a few characters (such as Fiona) one last time. Moreover, he got to pass over his children celebrating Ian and Mickey’s anniversary.

The episode ended with Frank saying some final thoughts about each child while he literally floated away.
