What Does Matt James Think Of The Chris Harrison Drama?
Matt James is talking about the ongoing Chris Harrison drama that has captured Bachelor Nation’s attention. What does The Bachelor lead think of it all?
Bachelor franchise host under fire
In an interview, Chris refused to speak out against historical racism. He was interviewing Bachelor contestant Rachael Kirkconnell, who was a rather controversial contestant on Matt’s season. She was previously called out for her links to racist acts, including liking photos on social media with the confederate flag and attending a plantation-themed party.
Following the interview and the backlash Chris received, he said, “By excusing historical racism, I defended it. I invoked the term ‘woke police,’ which is unacceptable.” Then, he continued, “I am ashamed over how uninformed I was. I was so wrong.” This led to him eventually taking a break from hosting the show, and he was replaced by Emmanuel Acho. When The Bachelorette returns, it will be hosted by Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams.
Matt James thinks Chris Harrison is genuinely doing the work
In response to the drama, Matt is talking about it. On the Bill Simmons Podcast, Matt said:
“Chris has outlined in his statement that he’s committed to putting in the work and he’s taking a step back, so I respect that. I hope that he does. I don’t think that anybody should be trying to cancel him. We should be calling him in to do that work that he outlined and wants to do. He’s taking a step back and committed to doing that. I look forward to seeing him doing that.”
Now, this doesn’t mean that Matt doesn’t have anything to say about Chris’s comments altogether. He says that the interview made him “sad.” Matt also adds that he thinks that the interview took place in “an alternate reality” for Chris. He hopes that Chris will return to the franchise.
Matt reveals that Chris personally came to him following the interview. Matt explains, “he called me and apologized. We had a really good conversation.”
It’s unclear what the future of Bachelor Nation looks like at this point. For now, Katie Thurston’s season will be hosted by Tayshia and Kaitlyn. In the meantime, fans are missing Chris and hope he makes a return to the franchise.
